Yeah, sadly, when i was younger i used to be on that Kurt Cobain was god bullshit, but even then it was wayyyyyy before the box set, wayyyyyy before the journals came out and definatley way before all that You Know Your Right and greatest hits albums. I was rockin to in-utero in 6th grade. Sadly i was too young to have ever seen them live, along with a ton of other bands i wish i had.
but you make a valid pont thc,
There's different ways to listen to music. There's music that immediately catches on, and there's music you have to listen to a few times to soak the complexity of the sound, to age like wine.
Yeah most of the music i listen too i had to find one song from an artist that i would keep playing over and over till i got comfortable enough with their sound, then ide listen to their albums. Thats not always the case tho, i love hearing an artist for the first time and and getting instantly hooked. Only a few bands have done that though.Metaphor Reviewed by Metaphor on . Starting to loose hope I get so disapointed when i count the classic rock, punk rock, and yes even TOOL threads. There are so many of these and everyones listening to their bands thinking that Pink Floyd is the definition of psychedelic rock. Anyone who likes them would love many of the bands i listen too, but you all have such thick skulls, imediatley dismissing any music that wasnt made in the 70's. As for all you in the "punk rock", emo, indie, all those various rock genres are missing out on all the good Rating: 5

I don't have one taste in music. I like basically EVERYTHING except emo, screamo, Xcore, and country. If your looking for real music, go no further than Scandonavian black metal. These guys do it for the love of themselves. Ildjarn makes shitty, yet deeply philosophical music because he doesn't care what people think. He wanted to make a statement, like Kurt Cobain, but he has done it way more efficiently.

yeah actually i do, read back further, it's called not wasting my fucking time... i'm not saying i don't listen to new music... cuz if i didn't wouldn't i still be listening to like one singal band? You can't always judge a book by it's cover. There is so many choices out there, but you can d/l everything for free these days, no one has an excuse to not go beyond their horizons.
i said i know where to look for my music, and i won't go past those boundaries.. new music isn't a problem... it's why bother wasting my time going back in time giving 'songs a chance' that i know (and yes i know, i've given them the chance) i'm not going to like, why bother giving boy bands a chance, when i know the whole time i'm going to want to shove pencils in my ears..
actually since you can get music free and easily these days, there's even less of a reason to give other music a chance.. before it'd be listening to some crap on the radio you hate just becuase you can't fast forward through it and what not.. why bother listening to the crap you don't like just because you don't want to risk missing anything good, when now youc an get all the music you like, and leave out all the crap you dont?
it takes me all of 3 seconds of a song to know whether i'm goign ot like it or not... (not always the first three, sometimes they have those talking intros, or something tha'ts not even like the song really is.. just three secodns of the song it's self and i'll know whether i'll like it or not and it's never failed me, i've never wrongly judged a song..) i use pandora to find new music.. it plays music that is similar to the paremiters i set... and if i don't like the song they choose for me, i can jus tskip it.

i hope you play out your "heavy metal" and are doomed to a life of musical bordem. Seriously, that has to be the most narrow minded statement ever made, but whatever theres no use arguing with someone whos as stubborn as you, even if i made you look like fool, ide be the real one for thinking i changed your mind. any further post shall not be dignified by response. (hittin a keg with a baseball bat is totally rad)

and i'm actually a very open minded individual... why bother keep listening to some genre of music when the whole time i sit there and i want to kill myself cuz it is so retardedly horrible? do you sit there listening to every singer/band of a genre you don't even like, just because there might be one song out there? i mean unless you listen to every last song in every last genre (which i can pretty much garuntee you don't) you're just as close minded as me...
btw, you can't just say you made me look like a fool and that makes it true.. dunno where you got you made me look like a fool tho...

i don't want to get in the way of anything, but i just look at this thread and i see alot of good and bad. I think that both of you are being a little narrowminded because each of you aren't respecting the other person's taste.
Metaphor, i agree that poeple need to branch out more and try new music, because i wish more people would try Widespread Panic, or Stringcheese Incident, or Ripple Groove. But you can't force someone to try something new if they don't want to.
And Slip, i think that you're right that it only makes sense to listen to sounds right to you, but that doesn't mean that you should be so judgemental about music that's different to you.
I don't want to create further argument, i just want for everyone to listen to whatever makes them feel good, because you can't make someone else like something they don't want to
