    question about stinky's cloning method..

ok so im goin to use try this method out tonight but i got a few questions.. first i dont have rapid rooter plugs and the hydro store is soo far away from here so i was wondering if i can just use reg rockwool or grow plugs?. if so what do i soak them in before i put the clone in..

my other question is could anyone explain to me in a better way exactly where to cut.. like i know what its supposed to look like but i dont understand what part to cut off at the bottom is there any pics that ic ould look at? i got my plants all ready to clone but do i take the cutting where they just have the top part that and then like 2 fan leaves and cut off the rest? or what? i just need like a detailed description or PIC preferably kuz ive been readin about it so much and i dont get what to cut off on the clone... but yeah besides the rapid rooters i got everything else on the list

My favorite cloning method... you need:
HEALTHY mothers that have been deprived of nitrogen for the previous week.
    -Water them well
-Spray them with WiltPruf, Anti-Wilt, or a leaf shine anti-transpirant spray. Let dry.

    Your MEDIA:
Rapid rooter bark grow plugs. Peat pellets are NOT a substitute as they have shitty pH.

    Your clones new HOME:
-A propagation tray with a 6-8 inch high dome over it, or a clear plastic box... they need about 8" of space to avoid touching the roof of the dome and rotting.
-under this tray there is a HEAT MAT.. US $25 at a garden store. Worth every penny.
    -Lit by FLOURESCENT LIGHTS

    Then your TOOLS:
    -A NEW UNUSED RAZOR BLADE.
-a small container to pour CLONEX GEL into. Do not dip into the bottle, it will get contaminated.
-A SPRAY BOTTLE of plain city tap water.

-Cut off a growing tip that is at least 4-5" long and has the tip with new leaves, plus at least a pair of nodes lower down the stem.
-Take your razor and slice the lower leaves off carefully.
-Now cut the end of the stem diagonally and dip it immediately into the clonex.
-Let sit for 30 seconds in Clonex, covering the nodes where you cut off a pair of leaves.
-Now stick it into the hole in the rapid rooter.
-Make sure that the nodes that you cut hte leaves off are covered. This is the first site of root growth as there are more undifferentiated cells in this region.
-Make as many clones as you like and make sure they are not crowding each other in the tray.
    -Mist them again with Wilt-Pruf.
-Pour a little water in the outer tray so that there is a source of humidity under the dome.
-Put the dome on and place the whol ething on the heat mat about 10-12" from a pair of 40w tube flouros.
-Lift the lid morning and night and mist. They need moisture and fresh air.
-Enjoy! Should take less than 10 days.

I have not had good luck with rockwool personally, but some people swear by it, I believe it DOES have to be soaked first, someone else should answer.

Sure, this pic is HORRIBLE but it is supposed to show a slip with a growing tip, and a couple nodes down the stem. You can make your cuts another node longer than the one in the pic... but this is what I consider to be sort of a minimum. It also shows a SEXUALLY MATURE plant with alternating nodes.
The cute you will make are
1- Removal of this fan leaf and any secondary growth at the node. Do this cleanly with a CLEAN razor blade.
2- A diagonal cut about a half to 3/4 inch further down the stem... put the slip into the clonex IMMEDIATELY after making this final cut.

    Nice a "budding" artist...

Escobar, yeah, soak them RW cubes in ph adjusted water for 24 hrs. I didn't always do that, but i hear ur supposed to.

You might think about ordering rapid rooters. I used to use RW, but these Rapid Rooters are the shit. Man, i'll never go back.

    question about stinky's cloning method..

I seriously recommend staying away from superthrive. I have used it twice with disastrous results. Besides, its expensive and you don't need it for cloning. I am one of those people that swears by rockwool. To effectively use rockwool you should get a bottle of clean filtered water, put it into a pot and boil it. Once it is boiling (or near boiling) put your rockwool cubes in the water all together and turn the burner on low. Let them boil for about 10 minutes and then take them out. Now they will be fully saturated and cleansed. For best results let them sit out over night in a well ventilated area. The next morning they will be ready to use!

To get good clones cut from the lower & or side branches. Make a clean diagonal cut near the base (where the node is). If you dont know what a node is, do some research. Once you have made the cut take a glass of water and place the end of the clone stem under water. Using your sharp razor blade again make another cut (under the water) so that oxygen won't get sucked up into the shoot of the clone immediately. Take your blade, and using a scraping motion lightly scarify the base of the stem about 1/4 of an inch all around. Once this is done dip into a rooting hormone (power or gel) and place in your rockwool and you're done.

    question about stinky's cloning method..

Clonex has no fungicides in it, while all the powders I've seen DO.
I think it is likely you are having fungus problems.
Do you sterilize your propagator between uses?
Just FYI if you want a liquid with fungicide, dip-n-grow is my new favorite grow product. WOW does it ever work.
Clonex goes bad after it has been open for a while, so if you see a sudden drop in % rooting, that could be a culprit too.

    question about stinky's cloning method..

i have used the peat plugs for my biodome and have to admit it dosnt do as well as they should for cloning,(some worked and some didnt 50/50) i have never used rapid rooters. but now i have the dome and the styrofoam forms that fit the plugs that i think i will try coconut fibre in them instead of what they sell. i didnt use any cloning powder either. good art work stinky.
