    stupid question... but DIRT WEED?

ok.. so were all familiar with the term dirt weed.. but i never knew why it was produced and how come its always shitty, dry, and tons of seeds? is it because whoever grew it didnt snip the males, causing the females to pollinate? I have like a dozen seeds from dirt weed im practicing on in my pc case, but this was a question i was wondering.. thanks

dirt weed or swag is where they used poor soil and poor nutes or no nutes or bad genetics. it is polinated because they were to lazy to pull the males or they had to large a crop to find all the males. where i live we also get mexican brick weed. it is reaL CHEAP and fairly weak(3 or 4 bowls to get high) i usually buy it to make butter. but it is cheaply grown and is dirt weed.
last time i got it i bought 70 grams for $50 and made 1 1/2 lbs of butter and made choco cip cookies that i gave to friends for christmas. now every year i am asked for my christmas cookies.

    sorry about rambling.

Not much point in even practicing on brick seeds since they are sativa and will behave differently from a good indoor strain.

Stinkyattic is right, skip the whole bag seed practice thing and order seeds. They can be cheap (nirvana) and nobody gets busted from a small delivery of seeds, worst case scenario is a small percentage of the overseas deliveries get impounded by customs.

    stupid question... but DIRT WEED?

First, dirt weed's low potency is often due to poor conditions in growing, harvesting and storage, not necessarily poor genetics. Since indicas have a shorter growing time, don't you think that Mexican commercial growers would have incorporated some indica genetics in their crop by now? They'd get in an extra crop a year! Back in the 70s, yeah, most dirt weed was pure sativa, but times and genetics have changed. When I grew out some ancient dirt weed, bag seeds, I got a mix of indica and sativas (the most sativa-ish took FOREVER to mature, though- the indica-ish took a more normal time to harvest- and both were decent, but not spectacular, weed). Remember, most American kids haven't grown any plants since their 2nd grade Mother's Day marigolds! He may want to practice before investing his money. Just look at the problems some of these kids have growing! Yes, the end product won't be as potent as some White Widow, but let him make his beginner's mistakes on something he already has, instead of $10 a seed "named" strains. And who knows, he may find a real winner among his seedlings. - Granny :hippy:

Absolutely true, and I don't disagree a bit about that!

This is the sticking point... and the size... not an easy or forgiving plant for a beginner

Yup... although my recommendation for a beginner strain is CHEAP... plain ol' Afghan. I think it's like $15 a packet from Nirvana and worth every penny. Takes very well to indoor conditions.

True dat. That's how I started myself... lots of shit spindly sativas that made me nuts, but when I started getting my friends to save me seeds from 'nooks' (Canadian indoor) and other mids, it was the start of a breeding project that I've been working on, saving the hardiest, burliest plants that are hardest to kill. Somewhere in my grow log is a pic that the Yeag posted of some of my stuff that he grew out and he told me it is pretty indestructible.

Nice to see you around the boards!!! It's been a while, eh?

    stupid question... but DIRT WEED?

According to Jason King, author of the Cannabible Series, most of the weed from commercial producing countries such as Mexico, Jamaica, and Africa would have been fantastic if harvested, cured, and handled properly.

For instance, in the countries I listed, a common practice is to hang the buds upside down, outside to dry. Obviously it's very hot there. It turns the weed brown. It's mostly never cured. Then, when the buds are dried they are all thrown around, and tied together, etc... and most likely transported. From then on, it gets packaged in many different forms for smuggling large quantities into the country. They jam it into different sized containers and boxes, sometimes making brick weed, sometimes just having super compressed brown buds, by this time, most of the trichomes have fallen off. Think about all the kief you get from grinding up your weed in your grinder. Well, this weed has been tossed, thrown around, and jammed into random packages, obviously losing a HUGE majority of it's trichomes.

Then, by the time people buy either bails, pricks, or large quantities of this, for a low price, they handle it even more. Selling ounces to people, only to have it get bagged again into smaller amounts, until it reaches it's final destination, in which it's terrible.

That's why everyone should grow their own.

Here is a link to my "Bag seed" grow, although I remember the plant it came from. . .http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-gr...re-i-come.html

It's a high Satavia, I loved the herb that gave me the seed for this, and I think it will come out just fine. . .again it wasn't dirty weed, bunk, swag, or brick that the seed came from so I don't know if it counts. He really did a bad job on curing it though, and thats what made me deside to grow it.
