Swearing in the forum.

I have just received an infraction or using the "C" word in a silly thread i started last night whilst stoned.

Now, as far as I was aware swearing was permitted in here, since I have seen many other people using the "F" word and have used it myself several times. I thought the C word was also kind of alright. This is the place where pot smokers of the world unite in our fight against global cannabis discrimination. I feel, I felt it was alos a place where other illogical social prejudices are not welcome such as being offended by the occasional use of a cuss words like F and C. To me F and C are the same. Is F tolerated but not C? To my mind freedom to smoke pot is kindred to freedom of speech.

Can someone please clear this up for me as I am sort of getting fed up with mods in these forums dishing out punishments for stuf lke this. If its not allowed to swear then please, someone or a mod just tell me? Don't go dishing out infractions, talk to me, donot treat me like a child, please.

I behave myself and i offer many interesting points of view. If its going to be like a police nanny state in here then I will use option B and just get the funk out. If its simply the case that swearing is not allowed then I'll try to refrain from using that language. Its that simple with me, I'm not bothered about a few words like that being banned, i just need to know the score.

a mod can give infractions, delete a post, whatever they choose, if they find it to be offensive..

that being said..i dont get why so many are upset by infractions and warnings..doesnt make a lot of sense with me...

may i also suggest that you contact that mod and discuss with them, maturely, how you are feeling about it, and ask for an explanation...we are starting to frown on clogging the boards with things like this, when you really need to be contacting the person who imposed the punishment as other mods cant usually answer this for you, or change it...

We frankly wish people would take more care with their language and not use either the F word or the C word. The F word is very offensive to many, but it's an almost ubiquitous term for many people, especially young men and young stoners, and so, even though we would prefer not to see it used so widely, we know we'd be fighting a losing battle on that one.

The C word falls into a different category, frankly, and had I seen your post first, I'd have acted in a similar way. The C word is a term of insult and denigration to women and is likely the most hated, most insulting term you can use in front of us. We do have rules against personal insults here, and if you need to satisfy yourself that you received a rules-based infraction, you need look no further than that rule.

Try and keep in mind that this is a big, public Internet forum where people of all ages and sensitivities gather. If you wouldn't use the term in a personal discussion with someone you didn't know, then that's often a good indication that you might not want to use it on a widely visible Web forum.

ipot.. The simple fact that we all agree that cannabis is a hell of a "drug" does not mean we all agree on the way others come off about it.
Freedom of speech huh? That goes as far as self expression as long as it does not offend others. In that case that particular mod found your post to be aggressive.
In the future, contacting a mod and further communicating the issue will be far more effective than making a thread.

I did consider contacting him directly and maturely, however I found that I had not way to contact him.

My use of the word C was intended to be taken as comedic, perhaps a bit silly, it was not intended to be offensive. It is not a word i use very often, nor is it one which I think carries much poetic value, but in this instance it semed to fit my intended expression.

Nonetheless, since the use of the word C seems to be permitted as far as I can see from the forum rules, any offence taken is really down to how the individual chooses to interpret what i say. It is impossible to post anything without there being a slight chance that someone somewhere might be offended by it.

As far as I was aware i was following the accepted decorum. Is it not perhaps folly to dish out punishments in such a manner as to confuse members as to what the generally accepted decorum is? Rules are rules, I have my own but i also welcome the ones imposed upon me when they logical, reasonable and, most importantly, clearly defined.

I don't accept your accusation that I am clogging the forum, it seems like a perfectly reasonable query to me.

i think anyone should be able to curse as much as they want, as long as its not directed at another member of the boards. This is a forum about cannabis use...not a forum promoting good etiquette and manners. Not everyone in this world is as polite as some of us and if someones particularly angry about a certain issue i see no problem with them displaying that anger with the use of swearwords.

you seem to be a tad sensitive...it wasnt personal, about clogging the forums..we delete several of these, on sometimes a daily basis, when the rule of thumb here is to contact who imposed the punishment...each mod has their email on their signature or profile i believe.....this is resolved, and the thread is closed...you got your answers, just wasnt what you were looking for...
