problem- i need to water plants without being there
Saturate the shit outta the soil first by making a small bowl shaped dirt crater around the stem. The crater should be as wide as the plants are, so you will enlarge them as they grow. FIll it with water til its saturated.
Take several 2 liter soda bottles, fill with water. Seal cap tight.
Drill the smallest holes you can...2 or 3 in the plastic bottle cap.
Turn the bottle upside down. Now drill 2 or 3 holes in the bottom of the bottle.
Test your holes and your drip rates and adjust accordingly. You want the bottle to empty in about 7-10 days. This will allow dry time before you refill.
Dig the dirt and bury the bottles so the water dripping will still be at root level. As the plant grows, you will be able to bury the entire bottle.
You can use any bottle...milk jug, soda bottles, water bottles...build us as the plants grow.
Some soil may need three bottles per plant...some less. Heat will also play a role, so get your bottle now and start testing drip rates now.
The wick method described above will work indoors but not outdoors as the wick will dry in the air first.
Start testing your drip rates. That is the key.
By spring you'll be ready.
