That's what I mainly listen to when I blaze, old rap. It's the best when you're high.

Old hip-hop carrys those beats where you can just sit there and bob your head to the simple hi-hats, snares, and claps. Great when high, you get so easily lost in it.
Great example....Mobb Deep - Shook Ones or Jay-Z - Feelin' It

I love old school hip-hop. There isn't a whole lot of new stuff I like, except Jedi Mind Tricks. Other than that, the newer stuff doesn't appeal to me.
When I do listen to hip-hop, which isn't often, I prefer the sounds of old Cypress Hill. By that I mean the Black Sunday and the Temples of Boom era. When they stopped rapping about weed, I stopped listening to them as they became just another group.
House of Pain. Fine Malt Lyrics album.
Funkdoobiest (Brothas Doobie album)
Ice Cube (Lethal Injection or Predator)
That's about it pretty much. I guess early 90's hip-hop was my fav. and I find Jedi Mind Tricks keeping it as real as it can get.
