Novice grower got some questions, yo!

Hey guys, first time grower and poster on this forum.

I got a few questions and probably a few more over the next few days as I think of them so hopefully someone can help me out.

1. When harvesting, can you strip a ripe plant of all buds and then expect new buds to continue growing on the bare plant? If so, how many times will the plant reproduce a new crop and how often?

2. I've currently got my lights on overnight (18hrs on 6 off due to the plants only being a few days old) but I need to change so the light is on during the day instead. Is this possible to change without freaking out the plants?

3. How many weeks should I leave my 250w metal halide on the plants for? I've heard it could be up to 8 weeks before you change to hps to trigger the flowering stage. Basically I'm asking how long the vegetative stage will normally be? Does it really take 4 months to go from seed to harvest?

4. How far from the plants should my 250w metal halide be? The plants are a few days old and have little leaves and I've currently got the lights about 2ft away. The tamp at tank level is 26 - 27 degrees centigrade with lights on.

Any help with these questions would be appreciated, I'm sure I'll have more questions over the next few days too. Cheers.

1. u need to revegg your plants if your going to flower then again, not worth it just start over.

2. You can change your light period, it will shock the plants, i would suggest leaving them on until you want them to go off and then start the schedual. Either way u can do it with out a large off or on time difference. Plants dont get too shocked from this, but it will take a day or 2 for them to realize what has happened, your might be better off leaving them alone, let some one else give u another answer to this.

3. u can vegg for however long you want, just switch the hps in and set it 12/12 and they flower, i would give at least a month of veggin

4. Depending on your temps, put the back side of your hand at canopy level and raise or lower the light depending on the strength of heat on your hand, u want it to be warm not hottotot

As for my first question, once I have harvested a plant completely, does it die afterwards or does it grow more bud?

Or are you saying that after harvest I need to switch the plant back to my metal halide on a 18/6 cycle to get any more bud from it?

He is saying you have to go back to 18/6, reveg, then 12/12, reflower. I have no idea personally... Does sound lengthy... I guess since you cut off all the bud sites, it would have to veg more sites for the new buds to grow...

I see some people cut the larger buds off the top, then trim back the plant and let the smaller buds keep growing, always under 12/12...

It is my understanding that the plants dont really give a care about the light in the first couple weeks or so, as long as they get it... So, I personally change my light to be on in the day and off at night after I move my stuff into my cab. Before then, I run them 24/7 for my seedlings under flouros... After that, I try not to change it again until flower...

Be gentle with babies... Veg for 1 month, then switch to flower is my opinion... Hell, they continue to grow throughout... Plus, I believe, that you will get more females with a shorter light cycle. I am actually vegging under 400MH for 16/8 myself...

Thanks for replying Highseekerz. That clears a few things up for me.

Another question, if anyone can answer.....

I am currently using a 250W MH and my plants have just come into the veg stage. I want to change to 600W HPS as this will give the plants more light and I know HPS is pretty good for both veg and flowering.

Will the change from MH to HPS so early in the veg stage bother the plants? Or will they take to it easily?

I've tried to take pics of my growroom to post in this thread but the pics come out fuzzy 'cos it's too bright in there. If I get any good pics, I'll post them.

as far as the light is concerned I'd just give them as much as possible without making them too warm if your temps are under 80 at the top of the plant I'd say you are fine I'd definately make sure you start with the light a bit farther away atleast at first and make sure the plants don't get cooked...

A lot depends how big they are I'm sure once enough leaves are sprouted they can take tons more light do ya know general height/width of them?
