oh yeah, the voting thing you know of.. isn't really as powerful as everyone makes it out to be.. that's called the popularity vote..a nd technically.. it doesn't make a fuck what those votes say... someone who loses in those votes, can still win presidency.. i'm not sure exactly how.. cuz i haven't paid that much attention.. but i know what i'm saying.. i even think bush lost the popularity vote one of his terms... and as you can see there he is.
Popular vote is simply all the votes counted out.

Electoral vote is basically "points" assigned to each state. The larger the state, the larger the "points". Win the popular vote IN THE STATE, win the points.

They go by the electoral vote. So let's say for instance,

Joe was running against Tom. Joe wins MA by 1,000,000 votes.

Tom wins TX by 1 vote.

Joe is winning the popular vote, but Tom is winning the electoral vote (which is what really matters).

So therefore, a president can be voted into office when less than half the population voted for someone else.
