Foxysox is back in the game!!! =p
Well, after reading bluebear's coocoo for coco thread (Bear - I totally respect your skills!
) I am sold on the stuff. I am going to try it out and see how awesome it is. I got the good stuff... pre-leached, lower salt content than some schwaggy coco.
Obviously I'll be putting clones in it, but I did an experiment Saturday night (that's what the popular girls do on saturday nights... stay home repotting their houseplants, lol) to see how well my little mothers would enjoy being re-homed.
I started with 2 females, a Yeag's MTF and a Rushman's Toxic Lemon, chosen because they are tough plants, and the Yeag's MTF totally needed to be repotted anyway as it had been in that soil for like 6 months and a couple leaves were showing scorch.
So I tried a couple ways to get as much dirt off as I could.
The MTF got soaked in tepid water, rinsed, soaked, rinsed, until the soil was mostly washed away.
The Tox Lemon just got shaken over the rubbish until the soil fell off.
When they went into the new pots and medium, I spread the roots out and also tilted them sideways for future training.
As of this morning, neither is showing any signs of transplant shock at ALL. I am very surprised because I was a little rough with them.
So here's some pics..
1- MTF needs repotting pretty badly
2- MTF soaking
3-MTF root ball all wet
4-Tox L root ball, dry/shaken

What a mess!
I could plant grass in my kitchen, there's so much dirt on everything!
Pics!
1- I got these little waste baskets at walmart for $1.50 each. I drilled holes into the edges of the corners, and on the sides too. That's the drill bit for the job. It's just a 1/2" paddle bit.
2- Breaking up coco bales SUCKS. Glad I have hefty forks. Not like the ones that your future in-laws give you as a housewarming present when you move in with your fiancee who they don't like... you know... where the knife bends when you try to cut with it? Even with a fork it took FOREVER.
3- AWWWWW aren't they cute? Seriously, see how happy everyone looks now compared to the first pics. That's just like a week of better temps, a MH250, and some PureBlend Pro Grow (organic, yummy! The fert smells almost good enough to drink!)
After seeing that the transplant took, I will be putting ALL my mother stock in coco.
Oh! I also started 2 white rhino x papaya beans in rapid-rooters, just for shits and giggles, to see if they are as awesome for seeds as they are for clones. I turned the plugs upside down and made slits with a razor, and just planted the seed directly in there, pointy end down, and put them in a baggie on the ballast. That was the 24th.[SIZE=\"1\"][COLOR=\"Blue\"]Men make their own luck. Children accept the luck that life throws at them. -Stinkyattic

What do you mean, suspending their growth? Like suspended animation? Urr? Why?
I just water mine with plain tap water. No problems![SIZE=\"1\"][COLOR=\"Blue\"]Men make their own luck. Children accept the luck that life throws at them. -Stinkyattic

ooooh.
Once they are done rooting you can put them somewhere with cooler temps and lower light intensity so they don't get too big for ya.[SIZE=\"1\"][COLOR=\"Blue\"]Men make their own luck. Children accept the luck that life throws at them. -Stinkyattic

I dont need them again until 3-25 (current crop wll be driend and ready to start flowering again.)or so. Last time (current grow) it took them like 3 weeks to really start doing anything. The temps were alot colder. Now, its a lil warmer and they are growing too fast. Maybe i should try and grow like 6 out and get clones off of them.

You need to build a little veg area for the babies! Even just with CFLs, F'real.
