Vortex or Elicent?
Hey, i am undecided on whether i want the 6" Vortex or Elicent. I've heard good things about both of them.. Do the Elicents have a speed controller built in when you buy them? cause i know that with the Vortex fans you need to buy one seperately. Any experiences with either brand that you'd like to share would be helpful, i know there has been other posts about fans but i dont usually drop $200 for a fan so i just wanna make sure i get the best bang 4 my buck. Blaze on.

Vortex or Elicent?
I have vortex and I love them but as you said if the elicent comes with a speed control for the same price then why not?
I think they are about the same in noise and in CFM so its value that is the deciding factor don't you think?

Vortex or Elicent?
Hey Zandor, good to see u again. Yea, thats what i forgot to say in my 1st post, im mainly looking for quietness and then CFM, elicents are rated lower but some people say they blow just as much. Im also gonna be turning it down a lil obviously to try to make it even quieter, so if they're both pretty well the same like u say and the Elicents have the controller i'll prob go with that. Anyone else have any experience with these fans?

Vortex or Elicent?
i run both types. neither have a built in speed controller. Honestly I dont really notice a single difference between em. The Vortex is a maybe a bit louder but not by much if anything. I dont have an air meter but they cool and blow the same as far as I am concerned; so whether there is a 50cfm difference, it doesnt seem to matter for me. I was always told that Elicents (sp?) were the best you could get but Vortex are generally cheaper. I use Fantech as well, have been working for me great. Crapload of air for the 500cfm model even with 15 feet of ducting. I also use a RS6 HO 6" Can-Fan and I am very happy with that model too. It runs 450cfm or something and cools all 4 of my lamps, it is the loudest which is really not that loud. Any good model inline fan is going to work great. The sound is really going to come from your duct work and how many bends you have and whether your using insulation or not. But I think youll be happy with either brand, Id go for whichever is cheaper.

He hit the nail right on the head, most of these fans are built to be pretty quiet. I run a Vortex with a speed controller, don't have too much of a noise issue. If you do you can try various different things, like Racer said try using insulated ducting, or simply use *more* ducting to absorb the noise. Also hanging blankets in your grow room on the walls will greatly reduce the noise as blankets absorb a shit load of noise. Best of luck!

Yah, also try suspending your Vortex in the air (so the fan doesnt touch anything) Pretty simple to do with bungie cords... best of luck
