    Volunteer/Community Service

Alright, so, for my health project, I must do something that will benefit the community.

I also had to do 5 hours of volunteer service to graduate sophomore year. I volunteered at an old'folks home, I have to say, its was pretty awesome, I went on 3 cig breaks with some guy named Charles who was probally 80 telling me all these crazy stories about WWI and his life as a truck driver. After, I felt pretty good about doing something, Im just too lazy to do it again.

    Anyone else do volunteer work?

Community service at a retirement home. I blaze before I go and when I come back. It's pretty boring and the people don't like me. I only have like 5 hours left so it's all good.

I've been thinking about doing some volunteer work, but I don't think I could do it at the old folks home. I was thinking more like picking trash up or stuff like that. I almost did the big brother thing, but it was just too much of a comitment. I just wanted to take some not well off kids to the zoo or something.

Every now and then they have a thing like that where they get a bunch of not so well off kids together and the local fishermen show up with rods and reels and whotnot and help teach them the basics. I'd like to get in on that next time it comes around.

i had to do some volunteer work in 8th grade. i chose to do it at an animal shelter. it was so easy, i only needed 10 hours and all i had to do was show attention to the animals that might not get it.. aka the reject animals hahah

it was still cool tho, i just took them in this room and played catch and played with them and stuff. easy stuff, i reccomend it if you need to get some hours in.

    ----EDIT----
just saw that you have to be 16... well i dunno lol i went with my mom so i guess my age didnt matter.

Yea, but if you saw what some sh*t heads are doing to whats left of the wilderness in FL, you'd want to pick it up to. Some people just like to trash areas up for some reason. "Lets go spend a day out in nature....let me grab all the sodas, beer, chips, 50 billion cig butts, some glass bottles, an old shoe, and a road cone and throw that shit all over the place when we get there.." :wtf:

i got community service once (at 16 a dickheaded cop stopped me my fiance [now wife] and a friend walking down to blockbuster.. i had a fucking cigarette and he decided to write a citation instead of driving to my grandma's house to verify she allows me to smoke [in all honesty, he asked me questions that were basicly him asking if i was allowed to then when i offered to take him straight to her, he decided he'd stop asking question, also we were only 4 blocks from my house, not like it was out of his way..])

anyways i got community service.... i really.. REALLY don't fuckin understand how picking up trash AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE POLICE STATION is benifiting the community....

does anyoen care to explain how picking up trash outside of the police station benifited the community...? for the most part the cops in our city sit at fast food resturants, or parked behind a sign or something in the slight chance that someone WILL FINALLY violate a law.... we dont' have that much crime.. we have atleast 30 cops too many... why couldn't they just get the cops to pick up the trash????

    >.< fuck community service... community service would be helping old people with daily routines, planting trees, fixing roads... something that would benifit the fucking community....

I volunteered at a cat shelter for retarded kittens for a good 50 hours. Basically cleaning litter boxes and playing with adorably retarded kittens. I had 100 hours of community service for probation. They threw in an extra three and set me up at a retirement home. It was one of the most depressing times in my entire life. The people there made fun of the mentally challenged old people and treated them like total shit. We pushed them around in wheel chairs and played bingo. I also did a shitload of paper work and organized casette tapes. I met a very sexy guy there who was also on probo though and we ended up hooking up HAHA.

thats nawesome sam! old folks make great conversations. over xmas break i translated for spanish-speaking patients at a free dental/medical clinic for folks who cant afford insurance. like 40% of the patients spoke no english. it was enlightening. afterward, i thought to myself 'this is what i want to do for the rest of my life'
