Pretty scary stuff. And now that its been broadcast on network news, obviously the knowledge is much more widespread.

I just love it when they post videos in the media for the entire world to view.
Now anyone can see how to get into someones house with a deadbolt.
It's like the news "warning" people on identity tehft. They pretty much show you on the news how to do it to warn people, well how is that warning people when it's on a public display for viewing?
People are so stupid.
This isn't directed towards you, just the people who made it decided it broadcast it worlwide. It's not helping people protect themselves, it's showing the ciminals how to do their job better.

Lock Bumping - Is your deadbolt safe?
That site and story was just on MSNBC the other night and the locksmiths they had on the show disputed the ease they make lock bumping look and said today's locks are safe from that method for the most part. They went on to say it's time consuming and the vast majority of thieves wanting to break in are just going to break a door or window to get in. IOW, it was nothing to worry about. Everyone on the show also agreed how irresponsible it is of that site to allow such info to be posted in the first place!

I agree with the broadcasting of the method - totally irresponsible - but the solution is in the knowledge, and I had never heard of this. Maybe thats one of the reasons why hotels have started using those electronic card locks recently. At any rate, just thought its better to know than not know - especially since it has become such widespread knowledge.
Not trying to panic anyone, or ruffle feathers and if posting this was inappropriate then please by all means, someone delete it. It just shocked me and I'm glad I know now, figured most people would rather know..

Lock Bumping - Is your deadbolt safe?
I think I posted something about this a while back, or maybe I dreamed I did. Fox orlando did a story on lock bumping about a month or so ago. I had never heard of it. Saw a guy make and use on. It didn't look that hard to me. Next time I'm at Lowe's, I'm gonna pick up a triangular file and make one myself.
I'll post my findings here when done.
