Ive never personally used the wick method but it is tried and true... , it should be find if you buried them but i suggest you leave the bucket at least 2 inches out of the ground... the way they work is there are 2 buckets, one that fits on top of the other and the top one has a cotton wick that absorbs the water and brings it up to the plant... keep in mind you will have to constantly refill the water around once every week... keep in mind most hydro is done indoors and if it rains its possible your plant could drown if the bucket ends up overfilling.

hmm your right i guess ill just grow in the ground... u think its alright is i bury a 5 gal bucket in the ground and leave it about an inch up and plant inside that? would a 5gal bucket be big enough room for a mature plants roots to spread or should i simply plant right in some fertilized soil

5 gallon is cool they average between 3and7ft not enuff root to hold a monster 9month old outdoor tree up though if ya goin 5 gal. i would put them wire cone things for like tomatoes or peppers.
