What comes after death?
I have been contemplating this forever and it is the most important question I have. What do you think will happen? Modern science says that humans are just material that will decompose and our minds will fade out of existence like a spark of elecricity and this life we live is as far as we go. What I'd like to believe is that when we pass away, we will return to our true essence, and merge with the collective, unseen energy that makes up our universe. What do you believe?

What comes after death?
something along the lines of that...
there is no such thing as death, only life, that which is, is alive, has life, has mind, body, and soul.
when we decompose, we are only changing. our minds change, our bodies change, our souls change, and adapt to fit the situation at hand.
we will be rocks, we will be dirt, we will be feces, we will be plants, we will be animals, and eventually, we will be humans again.
the change of life also changes the mind drastically, altering our memories, blocking out past life memories we might not be able to cope with, or understand.
i am an omnitheist, i believe in the infinite all. there is an infinite variaty of every infinite thing.
infinite alternate realities, infinite souls, soulmates, twinsouls, infinite planets, universes, stars, and infinities.
all which exists is the mind. the mind is like a single celled organism, it divides itself into alternate copies of itself, all that exists is mind, and the infinite divisions and manifestations thereof.

What comes after death?
I believe our earthly bodies will decompose... ashes to ashes, dust to dust as the Bible says. As for our minds, however, I believe we will be judged by God. I believe all have rejected God at one point or another either through lying, stealing, cheating, and a variety of other sins that are forbidden and hated by God. I believe those who heard the good news of Christ's death on the cross for man's sins and turned to Him in love and faith have been forgiven and will spend eternal life with God. I believe those who rejected God's offer of eternal life through Christ will go to an eternal death... most likely an eternity of suffering because they rejected their creator.
As for those who have never heard of Christ, I believe they will be judged by what they did know of God... through nature, His omni-presence, etc. and no one who rejected Him will have any excuse as to why they rejected His love and His ways. I've been on mission trips (to share the good news of God's saving grace) to several countries including Iran and China where it is illegal to tell people about Christ. In those trips I've come across people who had never had contact with Christian missionaries and yet say Christ came to them in a dream told them of His sacrifice for them. I have no doubt that God will reach with the gospel all who are going to believe in Him... whether through missionaries, nature, dreams, or any other means.
I believe all these things because that is what the Christian Scriptures teach. They are not necessarily what I would personally choose to believe, but I have no choice... I didn't write the book! The Bible has changed my life for the better so many times, and God has spoken personally to me through it in so many ways that I cannot deny it as the Word of God written to me and all of mankind.

Nobody knows man but I'm guessing not much. You become part of the earth, what once made you, now makes other things. It's a huge cycle.
Like Buddha says, just focus on what you have now, we have no way of knowing what will happen. Your life will carry on forever through your actions in this life and your family will grow to contain a part of your soul. Physically, your body will be gone, it will be part of the earth harvesting new life.
Smoke a bowl and watch Baraka; you will no longer wonder about dying, you will just accept it and be happy to face it!

What comes after death?
Your brain, which contains everything you know, your entire personality, and all your subjective experiences, will decompose with the rest of your body. The mind and the brain are not two separate things; they are one physical organ in your body, which is proved by the fact that physical damage and physical alteration to the brain changes the way that your mind works. Your thought processes, your emotions, your memory, it's all an extremely complex arrangement of trillions of nerve cells.
If your brain is 10% destroyed, you lose 10% of your mind's ability to do what it does. If your brain is 50% destroyed, you lose 50% of your mind's ability to do what it does. If your brain is 100% destroyed, you lose 100% of your mind's ability to do what it does. There is no reason to suppose that it suddenly and magically regains all its lost abilities and floats off to some other dimension where it will live happily ever after. It's never been observed, there's no known mechanism which could possibly explain how it would work, and the only reason anybody takes the idea seriously is that they (understandably) are scared shitless by the prospect that their existence is going to be temporary, and the prospect that all their dead loved ones really don't exist any more.
Think about it: if somebody has a brain disorder from birth, and they grow up mentally retarded, are they still retarded in the afterlife, even though there's no physical brain to have a problem with? Or do they suddenly develop the intelligence and personality of a non-retarded person, thus becoming, essentially, a completely different person? The brain is the mind, and the mind is the brain. The death of the brain is the death of the mind.
