    New to growing(for pleasure), advice?

Hi everyone, i'm new to the forum and have found some interesting stuff, so i thought fuck it i'll grow aswell.

Well it all started when we started getting this sandy SHIT!, so i thought what the hell, I dont want to spunk loads of cash but i can spare a little!
Anyway i would like to ask if anyone out there could help me, I think i will need to start using nutes soon but dont want to use expensive shit ive onlt got one plant!
Any way is there a cheapish feed i can use that will be ok? Where can I get them? How much are they? When should i start giving them to my seedling?

search for hydroponic/horticulture shops in the uk on google, lots of nutrients around for weed.

you don't need to use nutes for at least 2 weeks or so from sprouting.

depending on your lights/set-up nutes may be excessive.

You don't need to spend a lot. I've used Miracle grow in the past which you can get from most garden centres or DIY super stores and it does the job great.

The main thing with ferts is don't over do it. If you start to see little brown spots on the leaf you are over fert'ing the plants.

1 light(size varies 200-1000 watt),timer, medium(soil, perlite, vermiculite, etc),p ot(s),grow them as follows:timer set to 18hrs light on ,6hrs light off for between 3-4 wks water regularly with nutrient enriched water ,then put timer onto 12hrs on 12hrs off for at least 6-7 weeks usually longer... see what happens ,obviously this is a very rough outline and the variations are endless, strains ,set up ,light size but follow these basic rules and it should behave normally and yield at the end of its cycle. just thought i'd warn you there's a real chance it could turn out to be a male plant and will give you nothing ,you'll have to read up on identifying this if /when it happens (closet cultivator-Ed Rosental was my gro-bible when i first started) ,miracle gro is just fine, a discreet set up you'll probably need a fan but go to a good site and get the basic gro guidelines printed off and you'll up and running in no time ,keep us posted

Miracle Gro? I've heard alot of people say that it will kill it?

Are u sure? I've had her for about 18 days now and thimk shes doing well, got 3rd pair of leaves well on their way now. She is only under 2 x 20w energy savers but doing well i think! just using normal water aswell. I am going to start using nutes very soon tho! Can I get them to bud under uv flourescents? Do I really NEED sodium lights?

Leave it a week or so then , miracle-gro used in the right measures is as good as anything for vegging though you'll probably want something more specific when flowering .If you cant get to a hydro shop a good rule of thumb i found was most tomato plant feeds tend to work well (coco a+b is the d/bs).Try 2x60/80watts cos she aint gonna get too big under 40 watts and the process will be easier and yield better with a sodium as opposed to flours especially bein a ftg .I was gonna mention balanced water (getting PH levels helped me no end) but i'm gettin ahead of myself (read up and get some info) and from there it's all trial and error. P.S. you're absolutely sure it's a female ,seedlings don't usually show their gender till into flower

Just to clarify on the Miracle Gro they actually do quite a few different products and the one I have used is the soluble all purpose fert.

It just a fert so its not going to kill your babies unless you over do it. Personally on these type of soluble ferts I always go a little under the recomended amount per litre so maybe 3/4 of what they recommend.

I normally don't fetilise at all in the first couple weeks either as if you are growing in a decent soil it will have enough nutes for this period.

As the other guys have said you do need to sort your light out as you just don't have enough watt's to get much return on all this grow time. I did a couple of grows under Floro tubes when I was first growing and the yield is so low its barely worth it.

Get yourself an HPS or MH light from a grow shop and the yields increase massivily. Ok you might spend £200 on a good light but once you are self sufficent for weed it seems like a very small out lay.

Sorry to hark on about this point, but the plants sex is of the utmost importance if it's female all well and good if it's male it's no good whatsoever and needs to be thrown away and you'll have to start again.Growing from seed can be a bit of a guessing game even with feminised seeds(had shedloads of trouble with em).The first seeds i ever bought (N/lights) out of the 10 50% turned out to be male and had to be thrown but what was left was pure sensi(unfertilised females) yielding great bud and perfect for cuttings for the next generation of plants. glaeken is right ,your light will probably be your biggest outlay so £150-200 might seem alot at the time but once you've got your first 4-5oz safely stored away, the next crop 2 wks from flower, about to spark a J of D'erb grown by your fair hand, and knowing you've just taken the biggest hassle out of the whole smoking experience ie:dealers and delivery times(no offence to those reading) as the man says it will "seem like a very small outlay". But again, learn how to identify male/female plants ,look for small pollen sacs in the armpit of the branch/stem they actually look like small testicles though mine are bigger lol anyway best of british
