Gonna Try It One More Time.....so please......ADVICE

Ok I swore I woud never grow in soil again because I'm so friggin terrible at it but I have 8 haze seeds that I don't want to put into my hydro setup since they take forever to grow so I've decided to try them outside this year. I'm counting on all the smart folks like X--C, Stinky, Sky ec who are long time soil growers to walk me through this so here are my questions:

I'm in Calif....best time of year to start these long, long growing sativas?

What kind of soil should I start with?

I have some rather large pots (like 10 gallon) that I was planning on using for them since they meander on for so long before they are finished. Because the more I touch my outside plants the worse they do I was thinking of starting them in these. Is this a good idea or not?

ANY other words of wisdom would be very appreciated as well.

    Thanks folks

Ouch! That's the problem....there is TOO much info on this message board and too many options! Yeah I can try them all or I can ask people I trust what has worked for them and whether it would work for me in my growing situation, temps, outdoor enviroment etc.

I dunno... I'm an indoor gal... cali should be forgiving though. Anyway, it's the FLOWER that takes forever so putting them out in June should be reasonable

Well for the seeds, a seed starting soil: Light, fine, proper pH, and not too hot chemically.
For their first transplant and on, I use Agway brand composted cow manure with humus (the humus is KEY to the success of this mix) 60% and perlite 30%. That's the base. Add blood meal to the first transplant and bone meal to the final transplant into the flowering pot.

No it isn't. Start in small pots or dixie cups, move to 1 quart pots for early veg, and as soon as they outgrow those then yeah, go ahead and put them in the big pots. Whatever the final transplant before flower is should get the bone meal.
Of course, I'm an indoor grower and I'm sure there is someone who has better more specific advice!

    Thanks Stinky,

Yes I was afraid I was going to have to touch them more than I wanted...as long as the weather is good what's your thought on starting them even earlier.....like May or even April (weather permitting). One of the reasons I want to do them outside is to let them get tall, tall and not have to worry about size like I do in my hydro stuff.

    Go for it... Weather permitting...
I always figure outdoors you would want to have them stay SHORT but train them WIDE.
    Easier to hide that way.

Actually we are on some property that is pretty private......What I have for outside is an 8 foot high greenhouse type thing that is covered to avoid being seen with shade covering on it. Really the only place around here they would be spotted would be from the air so hence... Think 8 feet high would be enough? I'm figuring with 8 seeds....end up with four females more or less. The little shed thing is 8x4 and 8 feet high. That's why I was thinking height more so.....Do I need more space? More height?

And I WILL go for it!

    Thanks

More space... a tall plant is going to have some girth to it as well... you will see how it all comes out when they are at final transplant size, but I'll bet you can only stuff 3 big fat girlies in there before their personal space issues become a problem, lol!
