How Long did it take you to get over A breakup?

Long story short, together 4.5 years, engaged, close, girl says she fell out of love a week after new years, been bad last couple months I guess with fighting and all. How long does it usually take to get over somthing like this?? im 25, and this was my most serious relationship honestly and was never planning on getting back into the "dating" game...

Took me a year to get over a 5 month relationship..and while i've moved on I'm still not COMPLETELY over it.

It can take years, sometimes even a life time, but it's important to remember to keep moving foward even though your mind still gets stuck in the past. The past is never waiting to be discovered, so don't look for it for too long.

Thanks for the advice. The hard part is she keeps saying how she wants to remain friends, but I am finding it extremely hard. Just stupid shit like seeing her myspace status as "single" and taking everything about me out of it.. Its like I dont want to be soem pathetic guy and let her walk all over me but she keeps tellin and calling me saying she still wants to be friends and stuff. The hardest thing is shes from Jersey right over the bridge and We goto a ton of the same concerts so its going to be almost impossible to avoid seeing her.

in my experience, i've never gotten over any of the girls i've loved. im single at the moment and there have been two girls that i have been in serious relationships with. i've moved on and i dont think about either of them that often, but every once in awhile something will come up that reminds me of one of them, and i'm reminded that i still care deeply for both. i read a line in a book once that i think is relavant. "lost love is still love, it just takes another form."

the first girl that i was serious with, i honestly thought i was going to marry. when we parted ways i was crushed for a long time. i eventually moved on, but i don't think i'll ever get over her....but then i think to myself, at least i shared something special with her. i see so many people in my day to day experiences and i never get to share so much as a happy moment with 99% of them. but to have been able to share so much with that girl is great, i may not share these things with her the rest of my life, but at least i got the chance to for a little while. I dont think you can every really get over a break up, no matter what, you will always think about that person, and even compare them to others you consider dating. Even if you hate them, your still thinking of them

If I break up with the girl....However long it takes me to pack a bowl and crack a beer.

If she breaks up with me....Depends on the reason but usually a bowl and some sleep.

I'm sorry if that sounds callous but I just hate moping around and sulking. Too many wonderful ladies in this world!

To me, getting over a relationship is mostly about getting past the hurt to be able to look back and see the good stuff again, but as part of your history, not something you are trying unsuccessfully to re-live.

I still care about some of my exes...and yeah, it took a while to stop feeling hurt by the way things ended... but it's not like I'm pining away wishing we were still together; I think of the relationships as part of what has made me who I am now, and with every relationship that doesn't work out, you are that much closer to finding what you really need in a partner.
