Using other liquids instead of bong water?

Me and some friends quite a while ago put in PURE mint extract, about two drops of the stuff. It cooled the weed down so much. SO much, the only thing is, the extreme minty-ness became almost unbearable.

I know ice cubes help out quite a bit, but anything besides that? Correct, alcohol will easily bind with the THC and render your smoke completely ineffective.
