Germination questions
Ok..
This is my first time, so have a few questions-
Put my seeds in a glass and put in a dark place. They germinated after 4 days or so. Of the 6, 4 of them had the little sperm coming out from the shell, and the other 2 were just kind of busting out, but did not have the little string. So, I put them each in one pot on the window sill.
Question-
1) They are now root down in pot with the proper soil etc. How often do I water them till they break the surface?
2) How long should it take for them to break the surface?
Thanks so much!

Germination questions
w'ell, first, i think you are talking about a tap root, not sperm...
next, we need to know HOW DEEP you burried the seeds...
then, to answer your q's:
1)keep the soil moist at all times; beanlings can't dry out or they will die
2)should be a day to 4 days
hope this helps

Germination questions
Thanks so much! I did not put them that far down in the soil. Maybe about half an inch or so. I just checked them out and looks like a few of them have dried out. I would imagine the soil was not moist enough. I will wait a few more days about the others. Just gave them a little bit of a soaking, but nothing extreme.
Yes, it is a tap root!
Thanks again Princess!

ok, you may still have success; however you planted you beans too deep... i alway put mine flush with the top of the soil, but the standard depth is about a quarter inch. deeper means they have to work alot harder to find light and break ground...
just keep that soil moist and lets see what happens

Hey KP: Very kind of you! I will definitely keep you posted. Put them in the soil yesterday morning and started to feel a bit pessimistic.
Hope they will turn it around!

if you have more, go ahead and start some, just to be on the safe side; if those don't come up, you'll have more to put in. also, i recomend the paper towel method for beginners. put the towel on a plate, moisten, place beans on the towel, and cover with another towel. place somewhere WARM, and you should see popped beans withing 24 hours.
also, DON'T TOUCH THEM WITH YOUR HANDS! always use tweezers or forceps; the salts and oils from your fingers can and will kill the seedlings...
