In my opinion, America is censoring the wrong things on TV. They shouldn't even censor stuff. If you don't want your kid watching a certain program, block it. On that White Rapper Show, they blocked out John Brown rolling a blunt with a dollar bill. Or in Chappelle's Show, BET, or other stand up comedy when they use racial slurs. They block out shit and fuck, when nigga and other forms of the word are allowed. If I had a second grade kid who didn't know about swearing and foul language, I'd rather have him watch a show, learn the word fuck and go to school yelling "Fuck you guys!" than having him(especially if he is white) go down the halls and yell "Whattup mah niggass!!"

The FCC is usless. I agree they get their panties in a bunch over so much. They wanted to fine (and may have) Fox for a girl in the stands wearing a shirt with the word fuck on it. They were doing a crowd shot and happend to get her on camera. I heard Maxim is trying to hunt her down for their mag.
Yet they allow other things that shouldn't be allowed on t.v. with the morals they say they uphold.

When I visited the states I was shocked at the censorship there. I was watching Becker and the word piss was allowed on day time TV. Sounds petty I know but when Dr. Becker started talking about sex they were blocking out the words. I was shocked they put such an episode on if they had to filter so much. I love American shows but hate American TV there are so many god damn commercials! I hate the majority of British shows but love our t.v. I went a bitoff topic there sorry, I am stoned though.

Despite out country's claim to support freedom, we have had a history of legislated morality since Puritan times. Many of our current taboos are leftovers from this period.
On the one hand, this isn't too bad of a thing. Laws against murder are essentially legislated morality. The trouble is that the logic behind these laws is flawed and it tends to lead to laws like no porn, no helmet, no pot, etc.
Too bad the Quakers didn't have more influence. Those guys rocked. They were very much the libertarians of their day. Their pov on the issue mirrors yours (ours) in that morality is a choice and that reason and logic should rule the day. If there had been more quaker influence in our cuture we would have more laws like "don't tread on me" and less like "such and such is morally wrong."
(I am out of dope, and this really isn't helping get my mind off it.)

America is really starting to piss me off. I wish they would just admit they would rather a dictatorship and that bad propaganda is here to stay. They talk about the all the propaganda in the middle east but fail to mention the bullshit they spew. Granted it isn't as hard core, but that doesn't make it any better.
I read a while ago they wanted to pass a law that said no scientific finding could be published until it was first viewed by the government. Democracy is an illusion. We are converting to Socialism and who knows where it will go after that.

Watch that show "Dirt" on FX...they don't leave much to the imagination in terms of sex...and they say 'shit' like every other word. The shows on that station (FX) are just getting worse and worse with the sex, cursing, and drugs. "The Sheild" has cops blowing caine, fucking each others wives, and using 'shit' and 'bitch' as freely as they like.
I was going to make a thread about this a while ago but I forgot...like...how do they get away with that...because like you said, other stations are censor-happy?

I agree. We get a lot of American shows broadcasted here as well, Canadian shows, or good Canadian shows, are not common. There's a few like the Trailer Park Boys, and I'm sure there's a few others, but for the most part, yes, it is censored.
On the TV shows it doesn't bother me so much as it really isn't needed, but when it comes to TV stations showing movies and blocking out the swear words, now that shit I hate. Like TBS Superstation, I hate watching movies on that channel. They take out parts of the movie that they find not important, and use voice overs that sound ludacrous and fake.
I remeber growing up in Holland and them showing anything, and everything possible.

I love when they play movies, and instead of bleeping it they say like food instead of fuck and shoot instead of shit and this weird stuff.

And yet, we give up more freedom every day in the interest of the "common good".

I am sure this list could get huge, but this isn't helping me get stoned. I must go on a quest for weed.
Have fun.
