where did "just my 2 cents" come from?

it came from the 1800's when in a man's home, to speak your opinion there was a 2 cent charge to be paid, and was required by law... hence: here's my 2 cents...

I had a feeling you were BS'ing. 2 cents was a lot of payola in those days.
