Period.

But if you are still going to argue that deeply held faith or the lack thereof causes violence (an argument I disagree with, as I just said) I think history would show atheism has resulted in many times more deaths then Christianity.
I think what he's getting at though is that there are numerous christian atrocities carried out in the name of god, whereas atrocities from atheists were driven by their own political/moral/psychotic ideology that was held aside from atheism, not driven in the name of it.

I don't know where you get this about the "nazi atheist regimes", naziism was not an ideology based around atheism as it's driving force. In fact, here's a little snippet from Wikipedia about Hitler's religious beliefs:

In later life, Hitler's religious beliefs present a discrepant picture: In public statements, he frequently spoke positively about the Christian heritage of German culture and belief in Christ. Hitlerā??s private statements, reported by his intimates, are more mixed, showing Hitler as a religious man but also critical of Christianity. However, in contrast to other Nazi leaders, Hitler did not adhere to esoteric ideas, occultism, or neo-paganism, and ridiculed such beliefs in his book Mein Kampf. Rather, Hitler advocated a "Positive Christianity", a belief system purged from what he objected to in traditional Christianity, and reinvented Jesus as a fighter against the Jews.

How you think a 3,000 year old history of christian atrocities is outnumbered by crimes in the name of atheism is beyond me. History has shown an inredible amount of violence in the name of religion, including christianity; the crusades, salem witch trials, spanish inquisition, alsmost 2,000 years of pagan oppression and persecution... The only major atrocities carried out in the name of atheism I can think of occured in the 20th century by communist regimes. And since atheism was only a piece of communism, it seems communism gets the credit as the primary driving ideology.
