too many plants in my system?

i started from seed and i germinated like 50 plants. now im down to about 40 and there's about 35 really healthy looking ones. since i started from seed i dont know which is male or female until i flower them. i have a room for my mothers that im using as a veg room right now until i get the mothers. it has a 4x4 tray with a 400 watt mh held about 15 inches away from the plant tops. they are about 4 inches tall right now and are growing great. my question is can i leave this many plants under the 400 watt just until they get to flowering because my flowering room has a 1000 watt hps with a 6x4 tray so it definately has enough to flower them. and also once i flower them probably more than half of them are going to be males so i'll end up with about 15 plants females to pick my mothers out of under the 1000 watt hps. what should i do? kill some of these plants right now before i know if they are male or female? they are all growing great and ive been moving them around to keep them equally growing.. i know its too many plants i just think that my 1000 watt hps will be able to handle them if i can get them through the next 2 weeks under the mh.. tell me what you guys think

I was in the same exact dilemma you are now in, they stuck it out in the veg and made it to the flower. My problem was that I kept to many to flower and it became a real headache. Make sure you dont overload your flower room.

P.S. Greed will always fuck everything up. I learned this the hard way.

do you already have some stuff growing under the 1000w? if not just veg some of them in your flower room for now. otherwise, i dunno, just stick it out until the plants start blocking each other out. but yeah listen to socialist pete, they will almost double in size during flower, so leave some space for that.

im figuring im going to only end up with about 15 plants or less under my 1000 watt b/c im goin to only keep the best females. so i just gota stick it out until i can flower them and sex them. then ill just have a nice batch to flower and then out of those 15 im probably goin to pick like 5 or 6 mothers that are nice. the seeds i used for this batch were just some seeds i saved from a seedy batch of some killa. i have other good seeds but i only got 10 of each so i wanted to run this whole batch of the free seeds first just to see how everythin goes an work out the bugs before i start the others

you need to take clones first, u cant or it would be a bad idea to flower a plant and then switch it back to vegg once its your mom, pick a couple plants clone them keep tabs on who is who, and then flower one clone each and u can determine your mom, also yeah dont over load you grow space 15 plants in 6x4 tray should be enough space but be weary on root growth, the rooots are ussually just as big as the plants themselves.
