    The Snickers Super Bowl Commercial

JaggedEdge... the word you're looking for is "patronizing." Thank you for playing. Your post was very articulate.

Recognizing hateful speech or advertising for what it is, is not being overly sensitive. It's a matter of social awareness... and social awareness does not exclude humor. Though I get the impression (as I have before) that many on this site wouldn't know the difference between stand-up routines from Lenny Bruce or Andrew Dice Clay.

The alternate ad ending contest thing has been removed from the site. If those could be pointed to somewhere maybe on youtube, I think the uproar would become more understandable.

I agree with you to an extent, the quote I posted was highly offensive and should never have been spoken, but bush dishing out a compliment and getting criticized is a bit over the top. It is the same thing with the ad. There is a difference between being socially aware and simply getting pissed off over something because you can.

The commercial and what Bush said are examples of people simply over reacting to cause a seen as opposed to the quote I posted. All this suceeds in doing is splitting the nation more. If I were to see one of those girls bitching about racism somewhere else I likely won't even pay attention to them because they have already proved they cause a fuss over virtually nothing.

Look around, America is becoming to sensitive. I'm not sure if other coutries are like this, but America certainly has a bunch of winers.

Bush did not appear to be patronizing anyone.

I loved it, but Glaad got mad and its their right to do something if they got offended, but I do think they took it a little too far

So you actually found it offensive? If so, are you gay (not bashing, just trying to understand). I just don't get how anyone could get offended by it. So the guys in the commercial aren't gay. Are they not allowed to be? Is it because they had to act 'manly' after kissing? I don't get it. Please explain.

No. I did not find that specific ad offensive in itself. If you scroll up you'll find my agreement with another poster that it can in fact easily be interpreted as anti-homophobic, anti-macho, anti-stupid.

However, in context with the online contest which encouraged viewers to select a different ending to be aired during the Daytona 500 (endings which were much more clearly offensive), I do think the campaign as a whole was reprehensible. This is a significant part of the story that most news carriers seem to have omitted.

Here are descriptions of two alternates:
    1) Men kiss, then, horrified, poison themselves by drinking motor oil and windshield cleaner.
    2) Men kiss, one guy sucker-punches the other using a huge wrench, then second guy slams the other's head under the hood of a car.
