Birdgirl I need your medical knowdledge

Im not sure if this should be in the medical or not but it is more of a womens health thing. Anyways Im on prometrium 200 mg a day for 10 days out of the month. It is used to make me have a period. Well I just got done with my 10 days of meds and I usually have a moderate to heavy period. This time though its very light I cant even fill up a reg tampon, so im using panty liners to catch any spotting. My question is where I am taking something to make me have a period would I still have one if Im pregnant, but it be very light. Im going to give it a couple more days and if the flow dont pick up Im gonna pee on a stick, which happens to be my hobby here lately. So do you think it is possbile? Or is it just wishful thinking? Oh and the spotting started 4 days ago.

I think this is a good place for the question, Princess. Especially considering how upsetting period talk seems to be to some of the guys. I've never understood that. We don't get grossed out about ejaculations.

Remember, babe, I'm just a first year med student. I know next to nothing yet about pregnancy physiology, PCOS, or pharmacology. I'll have the classes about embryology, disease pathology and pharmacology in school next year. I can call my friend who's an ob-gyn tomorrow and ask her about this if she's accessible. Seems to me entirely possible that you could be pregnant, and I know people can still have periods in those early months. But I don't really know how the prometrium factors into that. And somehow I thought prometrium wasn't really indicated for people trying to get pregnant, but like I said, this isn't an area I'm even remotely "booked up" in yet.

I hope you are pregnant, and I know you do, too! Can you get one of those early detection tests and go on and check? There's that new one in the market that's supposed to be super-sensitive. Oh my gosh, I have my fingers crossed for you. I'll try and call Deborah tomorrow and ask her. And try and call your own doctor or his/her nurse and ask. Anyone who works in an ob-gyn office will know better than I do. Let me know what you find out, and I will too if Deborah calls me back!

You guys are so great. I'm going to wait until tomorrow, payday, to get a test. I still havent picked up speed so I have everything I can possibly cross crossed. Im trying not to get my hopes up too high, because its much more possible that Im not. If Im not there is always next month.

Princess, I just got a call back from Deborah, my ob-gyn friend! I don't know if you have already taken an EPT test or not, but these were her exact words:

"Well, with polycystic ovaries, she already knows that's a challenge (meaning pregnancy), but it's completely possible that she could be. It's also possible that she didn't have much lining to shed this month, even with the oral progesterone, and that's why she's just having spotting. I'd recommend an at-home test to check for possible pregnancy. And tell her that if she tests positive and then has to wait to get into the doctor, it's real important that she not take her next round of prometrium 3 or 4 weeks from now. We don't want that affecting the fetus in an early pregnancy. Tell her to make sure she's already taking some type of vitamin supplement with folic acid, too, just in case."

I figure you may already be doing that vitamin part, right? That's fairly standard advice for folks who're hoping to become pregnant since the first six weeks are so critical in neural tube development. The folic acid helps with that, I know.

Sorry that she didn't get right back to me, but she's busy with her practice and surgery and teaching and stuff. Hope that's good news for you!

Thanks alot for getting back to me BG. I guess i may not have much of a lining this month because the test came back negative:S4: . I was a little let down but I guess its back to the dirty dirty until I go back to my OB on March 6th. Im going to ask her for clomid because I dont think Im ovulating. I mean were humping like rabbits and nothing yet. Maybe next month.

How did you know you were pregnant? Did you find out after the 3 months (when your period stopped)?

The reason I am asking is because I have been feeling a little "off" the past 2 months. When I mentioned my symptoms (tiredness, low energy, nausea, headaches) to my mother, chiropractor, and bf's mother- they all asked me if I was pregnant. That was last month, and I got my period last month and now I have another one. They seem normal to me. Also, I don't have any other symptoms of pregnancy such as cramps, breast soreness, or morning sickness. I am also on birth control (NuvaRing), and I have been using contraceptives for over 2 years now, so I think my chances of getting pregnant are very low. But the comment about having a period for 3 months even though she was pregnant has bothered me and has got me thinking.

The only other thing that I know about that could explain my feeling under the weather is Iron Deficiency Anemia, as I don't eat much meat at all- and absolutely no red meat. I started taking natural supplements for iron, and watching what I eat and so far I feel a lot better- I am hoping that was what has been ailing me. Anyways, what do you guys think? Could I be pregnant?
