Sorry but hydroponics does require good fast drainage. Roots can clog small drain holes and cause many problems. You can make a cover out of pond liner you know just to keep the lights out of the tray and away from the roots.

I assume you are growing from clones then?

I want to use hydroton in 5" square pots. Will these be big enough to grow a whole plant in? should i get some larger pots or netpots?
