Anybody know what I could do with a degree in indigenous studies?

The past while I've really been questioning my career path in life, and right now I honestly don't know what I should be doing. But, while perrusing the college websites I came across something I'd never even considered, "indigenous studies". There seem to be 2 types a majors I could take which are "indigenous studies" and "International Indigenous Studies" (I live in Canada). The subject of indigenous cultures has always fascinated me, so I find myself seriously considering this path right now.

So does anybody know what kind of work I could do with such a degree? Would it be high-paying, decent-paying, barely scaping by? Would I be able to find employment? and most importantly, could I make a real difference for the betterment of humanity to some degree?

You can do alot, a degree is just a paper to prove your worthy around here.

For example; A woman I know has a masters in archaeology, but is one of the top players at this accounting firm.

but if you want to stay in that field, I say go north and study cultures around Alaska, the exact title of the job. . . . well I have no idea. That's funny though, because my girlfriend mentioned that same major a few days ago for herself.

with not so well known majors such as that, you can always fall back on teaching it. if its offered, someone has to teach it. so if studying the natives and picking leaches off your weiner gets old, go teach. i'm sure college profs make decent money. and teaching is always good for humanity.

He would have to get a PHD if he wanted to teach on a college level, or at the least go to graduate school. Assuming if Canada's requiremnets are the same as America's.

If you want to be a college professor, I would suggest a PHD, it could even be in something else I believe. Who is it on here that is a professor? Fuck, I should no this.

Anyway, with a docterate it a much more pleasent job, you can even get time off to live in another country while doing reasearch for a "book." Granted some colleges hire 4 year majors, but the pay and benifits are far less and I doubt he would ever get tenur (sp.)

    As for the thread starter.

Did you even attempt to type this into google?

"Graduates of the Indigenous Studies program will be prepared for employment in a growing number of fields such as Indigenous government, treaty negotiations, land and resource management, land claims, law and law enforcement, public policy development and analysis, and community development. A Major or Minor in Indigenous Studies will also benefit students pursuing careers in such areas as tourism, environment, journalism, education, health and social work. Students should meet with an academic advisor from the Indigenous Studies faculty during the first year to plan his or her Major or Minor."

    Indigenous Studies

Also, once you get some career ideas, your library should have a book with the outlook of every career: salary, growth, etc.

There are also several sites on the internet with the same information, but it is sometimes difficult and annoying find a recent and trustworty site.
