Those intangibles aren't related to music, more to selling records. What does selling records really mean. An artist can reach multi-platinum and still write shit music. If you never heard about his views on marijuana previously, how would you know his stance? The essence of music has no face, no PR, just expression. This is me personally, but I rather not know nothing about an artist before listening to it.

I love ganja much as everyone here does. But I won't let my views interfere into what I listen to. If it's good music, it's good music.thcbongman Reviewed by thcbongman on . well i try to stay high because it feels good not because i am some crackhead and i start sweating because i have no drugs if you are a crackhead you will take that message as meaning that someone is actually depressed because they are not high. well that is a person with an addiction i try to stay high because i love to smoke marijuana and it does not keep me low. i find what he says to be generalizing all drugs and putting them on the same tier. also there is many many different types of high's if someone is "high on jesus" and they go to church often to stay high on jesus are they bound to stay low?

Yes.
Look at those born-again christians, an extremity of being high on Jesus. They put all their faith in a singular message, preach it, and discount everyone that doesn't believe what they do. The message Matisyahu conveys can be used in this context.
Again, if all you do is sit there and smoke ganja, doing nothing else, would anyone want to give you time of day?
Too much of a good thing can be bad. Even smoking ganja, as good as you can feel, what goes up must eventually come down.

yeah and that is called abuse
after i am done being high or stoned i dont "come down" i just realize that i am hungry and eat something and then im fine and if i feel like it later on ill smoke another bowl or blunt or whatever.
i am not a marijuana abuser.
and he does not specify drug abuse
he specifies "trying to stay high"
and i just disagree
just like i disagree with what george w. bush says which is why i dont listen to what he has to say.
for me matisyahu failed and attacked my personal beliefs and views.
for whatever reason i stay high or smoke weed it has not ever brought me down any more than just waking up in the day.
the funny thing is that people always have problems and are down and bla bla but this also happens to people who do not use drugs but they find something else to blame it on like alcohol this is all just a joke to me if you cant handle drugs dont do them.
not everyone trying to stay high is bound to be low i can never agree with his views and never will he kills my buzz when i am stoned and he makes me mad when i am sober. he is a joke.. period. a little punk who thinks he had this epiphony and now he is like some rabbi.

Ok....
I don't feel Matisyahu puts down anyone's view, he's simply expressing his own. That's what music is about, expressing their perspective of what's around them, and what's inside them. If you let one's views offend you, I can understand why it's a lot harder to appreciate them.

I think what matisyahu meant by his trying to get high and staying low was if all you have is your drugs to keep you high you will always be low. As much as I love marijuana I know if it was what I did every night to feel better, i would never really feel better. He's not saying smoking weed will ruin you, he's just saying it can.
