Edwards: raise taxes for healthcare
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards on Sunday said that he would raise taxes, chiefly on the wealthy, to pay for expanded healthcare coverage under a plan costing $90 billion to $120 billion a year to be unveiled on Monday.
"We'll have to raise taxes. The only way you can pay for a healthcare plan that cost anywhere from $90 to $120 billion is there has to be a revenue source," Edwards said on NBC's Meet the Press news program.

a huge chunk of the middle-class is always included in taxes like this and the very wealthy can find all of those built-in loopholes. so who always ends up paying for these do-nothing give-aways? the middle-class, of course. this is just another example of the rich grabbing more, the poor getting little and the middle being crushed into submission.

How true! Edwards isn't going to get this passed by JUST taxing his buds in the house/senate. The middle class will take the blunt as usual and the upper class can enjoy the frills without the bills.

How's this for crazy:
My wife had to go to the ER, in a Brooklyn "city" hospital, three weeks ago and was given emergency surgery, which my healthcare pays for - including one followup visit with the surgeon. He wanted to see her again in two weeks, but the hospital does not accept my insurance (UHC), so we asked how much it would cost to pay cash. Guess what? They do not accept cash, and if you don't have a plan that they accept, you can't come back for more care even if you want to pay out of pocket.
Unbelievable, or what? I know one thing - there are probably people that will get care no matter what, but that's best left to the imagination.
The municipalities are so tied-up in getting taxes for everything, the middle-class gets screwed even if they WANT to pay for something themselves.

haha, maybe a war that costs $177 million a day makes more sense? I don't think so. At least our tax monies towards healthcare can do something positive for our country's citizens...rather than giving handouts to Iraqi's.

Before Romney left office here in MA he passed some mandatory health insurance for employees. Now if employeers don't offer health insurance they have to pay an extra tax that goes into a state fund to pay for the program.
Loopholes will always be there. Turn yourself into a charity and donate money to your organization. Unfortunately you need more money for it to work than most middle class family's make. One thing in P4B article said about repealing a tax cut for those who make 200k+ a year. IMO 200k+ is more then the average person would ever make in one year. I personally would like to see less tax on citizens and higher taxes for medium to large businesses.
LEGALIZE WEED AND TAX IT! I know you bastards in the government are reading this!

Hell, why pay for it at all? Let's have universal healthcare and pay for it with a tax cut. Just leave it to the next generation to pay for it all.
\"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will, within limits drawn by the equal rights of others. I do not add \"within the limits of the law\', because law if often but the tyrant\'s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.\"-Thomas Jefferson.

Brilliant, and very hateful. A tax on the rich would more than fund health care, that and stopping the insane wars. If we cared as much about peoples health as we cared about the bottom line, we might get some decent health care.
