Bloating definitely can happen as a result of alcohol. It affects liver, kidney and even heart function, all of which help control fluid balance in the body. And bloating probably happens at different rates in different people. I think a lot of it has to do with how it affects liver function, but I don't know the specific patho-physiology that explains exactly why. I had an alcoholic uncle who was definitely bloated and an alcoholic great aunt who was the same way.
Every list of alcohol-related symptoms always lists bloating as one of the signs. Like on this one, which isn't just about binge-drinking, despite the URL wording:
in the know zone - binge drinking\"That best portion of a good man\'s life: his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.\"

since i've been smoking weed i have had the urge to drink less and less. ill have a few beers now and then but thats it. alcohol in large quantities is not really worth it to me. it tastes unpleasant, dehydrates you, and makes you feel like shit the next day.

Yes, I have noticed that a lot of heavy drinkers get bloated faces.
It comes with many, many years of abusinf alcohol. You won't get bloated faces with weekend partying. More with years of daily, heavy drinking.
Bloated faces are sometimes common within alcoholics, not all of them, but my best friends mom was a drinker for 25 years and her face was puffy. Sadly, she passed on the gene to him and now his face is bloated.
I wouldn't worry about it too much if you're a social drinker. Keep in mind that most alcoholics blood alcohol level is usually at .75, that's 7 times the legal limit I believe, so unless you're drinking that much, don't worry about it.
