    Newb question

Got a dumb question for you guys...well not dumb but i need some advice on how to do something. I know HID lighting is bad for seedlings. All I can use right now for my seedlings is my 400w MH. What would be the best way to use this light? i.e. how far should the light be away? I got it at 5ft right now. Btw im using a 4X4 hydrohut. What are the disadvantages of using HID lighting on seedlings....and i guess if it is a must I will drive the 1hour away to buy some flouros....thanks guys

    Newb question

5 feet is to high i would start with 2 and a hlaf feet and if they stretch just move it closer until they start growing normal.

i use hps the whole way and just place it 6" over the tops with no ill effect and no strecthing at all but thats hps, i havent used a MH bulb myself.

    Newb question

You get it that close even with seedlings? Like 2 days old. I have always used flouro for a week then put the HID in there.

    Newb question

i would acutally say since they are seedlings just lower the light down from five feet each day, too much light at this stage and you could kill them

That was my plan of attack for now. I know that HID could kill them now. So How far do you think i should move it everyday? I was think about 1ft. But i guess i will also base my decision on if there is strecthing or not...

    Newb question

yea i would base it on how well your plants are doing.............let them tell you what they want, dont tell them how to grow. we can only aid them as they grow. good luck
