Cannabis or Marijuana?

I watched a documentary on the history of cannabis and it is a racist term. It originated when cannabis wasn't around in the US but mainly brought in by the Mexican immigrants who had a slang term for it. 'Marijuana' was one of the terms they used and the government decided to make it official to link it to those 'dirty Mexican immigrants.' The term nowadays is not seen as racist but its origins truly are.

Some people like LIP decide to take it as racist which is completely legitimate. So when you use it it may seem fine to you but during the time period when it was named it was indeed a term used to incite racial slander and in general give it a bad name. Cannabis is a much more clean and scientific name bearing no bad history.

To answer your question I call it 'bud' or 'weed' 99% of the time and use cannabis mainly when talking about the plant in its plant stage and not to the cannabis I buy and smoke.

who the hell says hey lets smoke some marijuana or hey lets smoke some cannabis. the only time either term gets used is if you are writing a paper or if you are a cop, no one means anything racist when they say marijuana whether the roots are or not. getting mad over people calling it marijuana is just unwanted stress. of course i feel the same way about agknowledging most racism.

I use "cannabis" whenever discussing our favorite and most useful plant of all for the reasons already listed above.
