I'll pass on Vista.... for a while thx.
And please, enlighten me, how is Vista beta software?

What part of vista isnt working properly?

Hardware and software venders not providing drivers and software updates that work with Vista is not MS's fault. They have no control over what other companies do, and the other companies dropped the ball big time in not providing drivers for people for their hardware. Its not like Vista was announced far in advance, and its not like they were given the specifications for Vista so that they could code the drivers and software updates ahead of time...

As far as the SP1 beta test, they do it because it makes everyone happy. People who want to get the updates before everyone else can get it, and in return for getting access to it early, MS is able to beta test it on a large scale audience, because honestly it doesnt matter how great your in house QA people are, you will miss things that will be found when you have a large amount of people all screwing with the software. You have to purposely seek out the update, because it is beta it isnt pushed to anyone who doesnt want it.

They dictate what access and control 3rd party vendors have to their POS OS. Each major vendor at one point or another during vistas development has griped about M$ and their dealings together.

It's not like they don't have a track record pulling this kinda crap. XP was buggy as hell and the FBI went so far as to warn M$ not to release their swiss cheese OS. And how about all the anti trust suits...? M$ doesn't play ball. Never has.

At least they seem to have learned something from the XP fiasco, to lock the OS tight.

I had a harder time going from 2000 to XP then I did XP to Vista. Ive actually gotten more MSDOS games to work under Vista then I could under XP.

Drivers are entirely the vendors fault. MS can not write drivers for everything out there, its just not feasible. Most of the vendors had well over a year to write drivers, and most just decided not to. That aside, when I installed Vista, it had generic drivers to run every peice of hardware in my machine, and grabbed the specific drivers within the first 5 minutes of it running.

Vista had alot better start then XP, and is alot better OS then XP. I dreaded the switch to XP from 2000, it was going from a solid OS to a peice of crap, and it wasnt until just after SP1 that XP was actually stable enough and worked well enough that it was worthwhile using. Until that point, it was like a rehash of ME.

I literally had to save a batch file that ran all the scripts to change the configuration of XP on a new install becuase it took too long to do manually, and I reinstall every 3-4 months to keep things squeaky clean.

lol, whatever, go buy an applepod or whatever its called.

like the guy said, XP didnt come into its own untill updates were released, XP pre-sp2 wasnt half what it is now.
