Correct Way to Pack a Bowl

nochowderforyou, the analogy made perfect sense haha. well thanks for all the advice guys...yes I know how to pack a bowl that'll get you stoned, but I didn't know if there was one specific way in order to get the most out of your weed.

Here's how I do it:


1. Get some bud.

2. Break it up into small pieces but leave one larger piece.

3. Put the larger piece (not too big, about 1/3 the depth of the bowl) into the bowl.

4. Put the other smaller pieces on top of the larger piece.

5. Toke to your heart's content. imp:

The reason I say to put the larger piece in there is basically to replace the screen. I tend to often be lacking a screen, so this is how I prevent sucking weed through the pipe.


Edit: Oh, and this is just how I do it. It does not help you 'get more out of your weed.' It's just one way. Sh*t, sometimes, I just throw a big bud into the bowl and rip...it works fine too...just don't clog it.

packing a bowl can be simple or complicated. of course you can just break em up and throw em in, or you could use a strategy for a specific way you want the bowl to burn

for instance, if you like to corner the bowl, put a bud on the bottom over the hole, then put some more finely ground pot against the edges of the bowl. then, take smallish buds (or smallish-medium pieces torn from larger buds) and kind of pyramid those up in the center.

that way, the shake around the edges will give great corner hits, and then once thats done, the buds in the center and over the hole will burn more slowly. works best if you dont let the corner hits cherry, then later get the buds in the center nicely lit.

I realize this thread is old but I thought I'd chime in. The best way, in my opinion, is to grind it up very well and tap your grinder so some (not all) bud comes out. Then take a credit card or something similar that you don't need and edge the weed off of the table/desk right into the bowl (accuracy is important). You can use a piece of paper so you don't lose any pot if the surface isn't very smooth.

I'm sure there are easier methods but I've got this down to a science so I don't really care to try any other ways. :thumbsup:

Everyones opinion will be different,but learning to pack a nice bowl is an appreciated skill,and takes patience,and practice. I prefer to grind my bud before packing,so what I usually do is grind up the weed im gonan use for the evening and just pull what i need from grinder and leave the rest in grinder till needed. Find a lil plug nut or use a glass screen depending on which on my pieces I will be using and just take a decent sized pinch stick it in there and lightly press it down.You dont want to compact it so much that you get no air through it otherwise you will just get frustrated. Feel free to practice loading your pipe as much as possible till its how you like.Good luck, and happy tokin' man :thumbsup::jointsmile:

The best way is to grind the buds first, and then pack the bowl, making sure it's not too tight, otherwise it'll be impossible to hit it.

having said that, the best way to smoke is a BONG!

I like to grind it up finer than most people I know... pack a solid bowl of fine ground bud with a sprinkle of crystals from the catch. Very nice... Only through a nice 18" bong! I like my pipe too...

Yes there is a proper way to pack a bowl. Actually it is close to packing a tabacco pipe. There is a 5 step process to loading your bowl. 1) Grind your weed (this will be different for different types of weed.) 2) Pack your bowl lightlyto the top and then tamp it down lightyly. (tamp means to press.) 3) Fill the bowl again to the top and tamp one more time. 4) Now light your bowl and smolder it out. 5) Once the bowl has been primed, light your bowl again in a full circle motion. Now your bowl should stay lit the whole time. Enjoy.
