Obviously this could be increased by applying heat to the co2 or using a gas which builds more pressure, but I don't know how well the gun would hold up under increased pressure. Any thoughs on this, or the legality of all this?

all paintball guns are designed to be shot at 280 fps. I HIGHLY reccomend you don't do what you described. I can see some dumbass holding a lighter under an air tank and have the reg blow... also the internals of the gun can't handle much past 350 fps (if you have a cheaper Tippmann maybe 400 it starts having problems, but anything high-end is more sensitive and you will probably blow the internals). you won't get anything near the power of a shotgun just use that
