Howdy CO DE,

I wouldn't use anything less than a 5 gallon pot,because you don't want the mother to become root-bound. I've heard that 10 gallon size,aint too big,if ya plan on keeping the mother for more than one year. It depends on how much space ya have and if you can keep the mother seperate and in veg stage.

I've kept my mother for 63 years..not sure how long my mother-in-law will last...lol Just kiddin..lol. I don't have any mother plants at this time,but if it was a wonderful F-2 generation or later,I'd keep her around for awhile..more than a year !

lol, What so I can grow a mother plant, take as many cuttings as I wont in a year then at the end of the year keep one of the cuttings on 12/12 for a mother and get rid of the mature mother?

Howdy DojaDave and CO DE,

Yup..a mother plant is kept in a veg cycle,usually considered a photoperiod of more than 12 hours, something along the lines of 14 hours or so..should do .

I believe that there's alot more info on the overgrow site,regarding mother plant maintanance,that y'all should check out. I believe,that a good mother plant,is at least an f-2 generation or later,and that one would not want to kill the mother plant,just because it's a year old. The longer a plant has had time to veg and mature,the more stable and higher yielding the clones will be from it. Many experienced growers,for instance,like to veg their indoor grows for 3 months,when growing from seed,rather than 6-8 weeks,because the plants are more stable,able to bear the weight of heavy buds,have larger yields and are generally more potent,as a result of longer veg time.

Most young growers,are impatient and just do the minimum veg time required from seed,so that they can git to the end result quicker. However,if you're growing from a clone,the veg time is shorter,4-6 weeks,and is partly based on what size the flowering plant will become when started on the 12/12 photoperiod.
