    I swore at a stranger... (a rant)

Today, at the station waiting for my train, I'm standing on the semi crowded platform minding my own business, head in the clouds, when a girl, who's sitting on the ground a few metres in front of me turns around and mumbles something. I didn't hear her but she was looking at me, so I took a few steps forward, leaned down and said, "Sorry, I didn't catch that." and she says, "Can you _not_ stand behind me? I don't like people standing behind me." I looked at her in confused disbelief and then said "I'll stand wherever the fuck I want." bitch.

Was it a racial thing? I mean c'mon!

yeah, damn, maybe she was a stoner.. shoulda asked her for some weed, i'm dry as a bone.

Racism shits me to no end, but in a weird twisted way, i understand why there is racism, and why it is inherent in our nature to differentiate ourselves from those who are.. well.. different.

    I hope i didn't hurt her feelings.

It's ok, she brought it on herself.

Well if she was just going to sit there.. how can she expect someone not to stand behind her. Her behaviour is silly..
I would have done the same thing as you.

Hahaha... well, maybe she was afraid you'd try to push her on the tracks or something..

I know that if the subway platform is REALLY crowded it can be pretty upsetting when someone behind you gives you a nice nudge towards the ledge.

What makes me laugh about this story though is the fact that she was sitting..

    Some people .. lol

Why would you even wonder if it were racial? Seems like your response was unnecessarily harsh on your part, in response to an unnecessary request on hers. She could have simply moved, it seems like. Maybe before you respond to someone that way next time or wonder about racism, consider it from a woman's point of view. They tend to be smaller than men and be victims of assaults far more often than men, and it's not implausible that it might have happened to her at some point in her past in a way that made her uneasy with people coming up behind her or standing behind her. Then, as someone else theorized, what if she's paranoid about being in a position where someone could push her onto the tracks? A lot of people, including guys, have that fear on train platforms. Lots of things jump out at me before racism or dislike of you. And they all have lots more to do with her. The sad thing is the way you responded may now color her opinion of people who look like you more than anything else.
