From seedling to 3 gallon pot or work its way up?

Should I take a germinated seedling and plant it straight in a 3 gallon pot which I'll be using for my grow or put it in something smaller and slowly work up to the big pot?

    Howdy wbs5150,

I like to start a seedling in a 20 or 16 oz,plastic, disposable drinking cup, usually found in the picnic section of stores,no clear cups. I make several drain holes in the bottom of each,by heating up a philips head screwdriver or something round. I then wash them thoroughly with either anti-bacterial dish soap or with a bleach solution. I then let them grow in those cups for a couple weeks or so,before transplanting them into a large pot,I prefer a 5 gallon size,in order to give em enough room for their roots. You should only have to transplant once, use a pair of scissors to cut the plastic cups down the sides.

I think it's better to start em out in cups, because it's easier to just water the volume of a cup..than 3 or 5 gallons of volume, plus, you can find out which plants are good for growing and not have to come up with as much potting soil. Waste not-want not !

    Have a good one...Torog
