I had a little problem with algae about 3 weeks ago and light proofing and a little h2o2 took care of it. Now my roots look brown and dark brown in some places. Are my roots ok? I hope its not root rot. Roots still grow but I dont like the look of these roots. MyAny opinions?

What nutes do you use? Sometimes they get stained brown from GH micro and other nutrients. I dont know, how do they smell? And do they feel like they have a layer of scum/slime on them?

Im using GH 3 part. Like I said I had a slime/algae problem a few weeks ago and a littel h2o2 took care of the slime they are not slimy to the touch after treatment. It disapeared. It starts to show up after about a week or so but 5 ml of H2O2 takes care of it in a few hours. They smell plant like and they dont stink like something bad. Its just that some of the roots have really dark spots on them like bruises. See the second picture the root in the middle that is really dark. That is my question, if that is a problem that any of you have seen like root rot. I just want to make sure its nothing bad and just normal nute solution staining. My plant does not show any deficencies and looks really healthy but I read that root rot can be in healthy looking plants. Thanks for the help. Peace

Well, while there'r far more knowledgable people than me, from what I've read, root rot will smell rotten, and feel slimey and you can easily tug out rotted roots. But you say yours feel normal and dont smell like rot, so I'd have to guess you're ok.

While you pull them up like that, you could always squirt some H2O2 directly on the darker rootmass and call it a day I think.

I think they look pretty good....more of a tan than a brown. Mr E would you be worried about the H202 directly on the roots being too strong? I use H202 every other day but always put it into the buckets to dilute. Dr B like Mr E says rotten roots will be very fragile, dark brownish, slimy and smell nasty. I don't see any of that type of thing on those roots.

it just looks like algae to me. are you using RO water? whats the water temperature? you should consider a product like Hygrozyme which helps clean your roots and conditions the water and promotes new root growth. It can be used in conjunction with a little h2o2. but i expect your water is to warm and your getting algae. if you wait to long, it can end up as rot. do you change your reservoir out ever or just top off?
