man... so i'm a sophmore in highschool, and i've been having troubles in my spanish 2 class. Well today, i got a D on my final. This means that i will still move onto semester 2 spanish, but i will have a D on my highschool transcript...

I didn't get that great of grades in my other classes... i got 2 other c's, and 3 b's.

    a d, 2 c's, and 3 b's? not that great....

I'm not sure, maybe its all of the pressure i've got ever since i've been in middle school... but it sounds like i have ruined my chances of even going to a somewhat good college but fucking up in things like this.

On top of that, i dont do any sports or clubs.

    :-/

i'm depressed over the fact that i'm fucking up now, and when i want to go to a UC or a good school in a couple years when i'm a senior, i wont have the shot.

yeah so was i ...i lasted three semesters and dropped out, i lived in a college town for three years, had a blast met some cool mothers, drank a lot smoked a lot and did a lot of drugs. but i wish i hadnt gone.

there are a lot of ways to make a comfortable living. it just depends on what you want to do. for instance you could be a

    mechanic
    line man
    electrician
    carpenter
    plumber
    equipment operator

im not saying dont go to college, but see whats out there first ! and dont let motherfuckers pressure you into going, if you want to take a year or two or three off , do it. there is no law that says you have to go to college straight out of highschool. figure out what you want to do by getting out and about and seeing whats out there then make your decision.

Pull your shit together for 2nd semester.
Sign up for AP classes for your junior / senior years
Get involved in extracuricular activities (community service, sports)
Take a PSAT / SAT training course

If your junior and senior years look good enough, colleges won't give a shit about your first two

it doesn't matter, junior year is FAR more critical than any other year.

Im a senior right now and having an awesome year. I know im saying what your mom and many others have told you but GET INVOLVED. My only regret is that I didn't get to know the cool people I discovered earlier on instead of waiting till Junior year. Get on the team and meet people, theres some very cool kids waiting to meet you.

    It's not over, Kiddo!

It is rough to feel like you're doing the best you can but still not getting fantastic grades. But it is excellent that you care!

There are lots of things you can do to improve your grades and your college applications. Talk to your guidance counselor about your concerns... S/he can help you choose some classes that will be in your stronger areas to help balance out those in which you struggle. S/he can also hook you up with tutors, talk with your teachers to find some non-traditional ways to boost your grades, suggest some extra-curricular activites (at school or in the community) that interest you and will show potential colleges what you are all about.

So your grades aren't tip-top. If you ask around, I'm sure you will find that many, many people get in to college with grades comparable to yours. They study like hell for entrance exams (SAT, ACT, etc.), or they volunteer and contribute to society in a recognizable way, etc.

What are you passionate about? What's something you could really sink your teeth into? Not sure? Ask your guidance counselor about a career aptitude test. It will help you see which jobs out there fit your likes and strengths, and from there you can get involved in something related to help yourself stand out on college applications.

Chin up, Kid. You're young - Your world is yours to shape.

There are tons of community service opportunities out there! You can help build & repair houses with Habitat for Humanity. You can volunteer at an animal shelter. You can help out at a soup kitchen. You can start a recycling program at your school.

Try a web search for sites like this:
    VolunteerMatch: Where Volunteering Begins

There's a big national drive for volunteers that started in the US after 9-11... I can't think of the name! Anyone?
