UV Experiment
hi, i am new to growing and have just purchased a small hydroponic tank to grow a few (4-5) plants in to see how i get on. I have read up enough on the subject that i think i can grow successfully, but i have an experiment i'd like some feedback on. Basically I've read in a few places that some of the best marijuana grows high up in the himalayas because of increased UV exposure, which forces the plant to create more THC as a sunscreen. So has anyone ever tried or is it worth tryin to re-create that climate in my grow room by putting a coupla weak UV lights in along with my main grow light (400W dual spectrum HPS)?

Its mainly the strain, and the growing location.
Using UV can be quite dangerous as high levels of UV cook the skin.
Your best bet is to get a strain , get it stablized , and get it growing good.
I figure it takes about a year to figure out a stain.
I'll take 10 seeds get 10 plants, 5+ males
Take clones from each plant , test each product from each seed, get the best.
Then comes the grow / bloom once you figured out what seed made the grade
Now you prefect the growing and blooming sequence.
You want the most product for the watt. The GWM is the bottom line
1000 grams from a 1000 watt bulb in 2 months that give you a .5 grams per watt.
DRY, Cured, clean, trimmed bud on the scales.
If you doing it as a fun thing , have fun. If your doing it as a hobby , thats where the game is.

However since you are only just getting started, as sanclem said, you should go with the BASICS first and not get too fancy until you have it all down.
After that, GREAT IDEA.
Bonus, I'll bet you have no mite problems haha

If your get 1000 grams of clean, dried, cured
If you use a 1000 watt bulb
If you took 2 months
1000 divided by 2 = 0.5
If it took you 3 months it would be 0.33 GWM:Tomcat: :Tomcat: :Tomcat:
Now the best bloom yeild was by a guy name tric onvergrow , that system was a 3 part, scrog, flood and drain system.
I must admit I'm lazy and get 0.468 GWM in a plant them and grow system.
With automation I'm lazy , and want to maximize my labor/light/cost/timing
As before get the basics down, know your plants, and make the bitches turn out the product.
The cheapest thing you can buy is a expensive PH and PPM meter. Why cheapest thing, If you know exactly what they are getting, its easy and fun.
My ph and ppm meter was about $250. If I was starting all over and had nothing to start with the first thing I would buy is a good meter.
The bottom line its like having a car with out a steering wheel
One more note , when you have it refined, smell , noise, and NO friends will be the hard part.:tomcat:
