For the veterans: your own seed bank?

Granted most start from purchased seeds and keep a mother for future clones, but what I don't get is this...

Let's say you can not keep a mother in perpetuity, do you ever pollinate to make your own seed bank?

    If not, why not?

Yes I have quite a genetic archive going at the moment.
When I buy seeds I never germ all of them; usually I just pop 3 or 4 in case something goes wrong.
Then I also save seeds from beautiful or hardy or nice smelling plants.
I got started breeding down from the best of the bagseeds I was given by a pot-snob friend, breeding for tolerance to abuse.
Here's my seed collection as it was a couple months ago... it's a lot bigger now!!!

    stinkyattic: impressive.
I figured you for one who squirrels away her treasures.

It seems short sighted to drop $200 on seeds and not make "copies" somewhere along the way.

Dam, i wish i could. I have this nice strain of AK47, so if i want seeds, do i need to force hermi a plant to get some pollen?

Yup. Let her go another 2 weeks after harvest time and you should get some sax.

As an aside, it's a good thing I don't pop all beans of one strain at once... I've been a huge stressball lately... managed to get my media mixed up... put my new seeds in a FERTED medium = crap. They will probably make it but only because I caught the mistake in time and flushed the hell out of them this morning!

so is there any way to get some sacks after i neatly and carefully trim the buds off at harvest time? Maybe just throw it outside and see what happens?

You have to leave some buds ON almost as if you were going to reveg, but leave under 12-12... the sax grow in the buds just like regular herms.
Or you can stress them with heat or light cycle... take a branch, MARK IT CAREFULLY!!!... sometimes during 'day' put a couple paper bags (double bag for lightproof) over that branch. Sometimes at night, go in with a flashlight and a bag, put the bag over the branch again, and shine the flashlight up into the paper bag to give a few moments of bright light... Just really fuck with the plant's head!!! haha
It's a good idea to archive your genetics... it will make it easier for you to protect yourself without second thoughts if you ever get that wind of impending raids....

I've said before and I'll keep saying it; losing your crop is one thing.

Killing your plants may keep you out of jail.

Losing your entire genetics that you've become comfortable with over the years... I would cry my eyes out.

You have GOT to protect yourself AND your investment!
