Howdy CO DE,

A mother plant ,doesn't need a 250 watt light source to thrive,I believe that 80 watts of floro,would be enough. Plus,you'd be wasting money by running the hps and generating excess heat. I hear that with proper care..mother plants can live for years.

As for taking a cutting,I believe that it's best to wait until the plant is at least one month old..and older would be better,because you'd have more sites to take cuttings from,and the plant will recover from the shock better.
