Lighting Question, is it worth it?

Ok I found a website that sells a sun system 4 150 watt HPS light for like $100 brand new with a 5 year warranty and as of now Im growing with three 27 watt CFL (105 watt output) but for one plant. My environment for flowering is about 3ft wide x 1.5ft deep x 3 ft tall. I currently am pulling decent yield, but I wanted to expand to growing 2 plants at once. Will this single HPS lamp be a good buy and will I get better yields over the two plants with this light as opposed to the one with the CFLs. If this sounds like a good buy Ill just use the leftover cfl fixtures for vegging on the lower shelf so I can also veg 2 plants while I flower the other two. What do you all think? Am I ok now and should just buy 3 more cfls for the second plant or should I get the HPS and say goodbye to the CFLs? :rasta:

Is this 4 x 150W HPS for a total of 600W? Hope ya have good ventilation! I'm guessing you meant "for", and it's a single 150W HPS

Tough call. I'd use the HPS with your current CFLs as sidelights, giving you about 225W of mixed lighting. Your flowering box is the same size as the inside of my closet (I'm using 300W of CFL): you should be able to do 2 or 3 plants in that size easilly with those lights, depending on strain, and assuming all other needs are met.

As far as vegging on the shelf below, there's no easy way to lightproof between shelves in a closet or wardrobe. You're prolly better off with a seperate veg area; during bud cycle absolute dark is important.

you could buy 250 WTTER for 100 bucks of ebay. just an option, 150 is good for a couple plants, but if you really wanna seem them bloom i would get a higher wattage, but a 150 would work with results

Use the cfls for veg/clone/seedling and the hps for flowering. Hps will produce more than cfls.

This is not to say that CFLs don't produce. They do. I've got 2 plants under CFL, and am expecting about 2 oz+. If I had 300W of HPS in there I'd prolly be getting a qp+.

HPS & warm white CFL produce 2 different spectra. HPS about 2200K & CFL about 2700K. I think these 2 spectra mixed would produce amazing results. When I move next month, I plan on adding a 150W HPS to my 300W of CFL in the new grow room - not closet! Yay!

the difference between 2200k and 2700k is very subtle, even tho there is a difference, its not much. an hps isnt just one kelvin rating its got a whole lota light ranging from yellow to red.
