can i use a fluorescent light ballast that meant for 2 42" tub's w/ 2 36" tubes?
and would a UV fluorescent be better then a white one?

No And No! Each light has it's own type ballast and cap.It would light the 36's but you would run a risk of fire.The fixture would overheat.Never used an Ultra Violet.I saw a thread on here about this exact question. I'll dig it up. I think Zandor was the one that replied.
