would the hps really increase my yield that much over the t5?

Its all a matter of lumens as far as im concerned, I use T5's exclusively for alot of reasons, but mainly because I get the same results, if not better then my friends do with HPS lamps. I have two 4ft/4 bulb T5 H/O lights and when my plants are under them the growth is unreal. I just started to use two recently though, for a while I used only one 4ft/4 bulb H/O lamp, but the results were every bit as good IMHO. Best way to do it is just to try both and decide for yourself. I just like them because its low on electricity, and heat. :thumbsup:

lumens are a rating of the light coming off the bulb but I generally worry more about the PAR rating of the bulb cause that's what makes the plant grow...if a bulb produces 100,000 lumens but only 10k lumens are in the right spectrum it's still not as good as a 50,000 lumen bulb with 20k lumens in the right spectrum or PAR...

I'd go with floro for veg and hps for flower the size and type of bulb you get depends on the type of grow you are gonna have...sativa/indica take different light levels too sativa like much more and hotter temps generally
