What size breaker ya gonna add? If it's above 15 amp single pole throw switch.you need 14 gauge wire and not 12 gauge. That would be due to the amp draw of the ballast. If ya put a 40 double pole you can run fans pumps and lights.Gotta make sure you can add to your panel.Gotta add all the breakers up and see on the panel door what is the max amps, too!

The 10 gauge wire is use for hot water heaters{220volt} on a 30 amp breaker. Each county, state, and city has its oun wiring codes.I dont know about a 40 amp breaker,A fan, air pump, timer, water pump, exhaust fan,400 to 1000 watt light only adds up to about 15 amps.I run all this and a box fan on a 20 amp breaker. If you only need 18 amps use a 20amp breaker. To big of a breaker can cause a fire.Or to small a breaker you trip the breaker all the time.Add up all the amps of your equipment, use a breaker thats a few amps bigger.Check your local ele. codes in your area.I'am not trying to step on anybody toes but electricity is invisible and deadly.

The 40 amp double pole single throw,Can be used to run more than a 1000 watter and fans pumps timers and anything you choose to add to your room. The larger gauge is a safety precaution.A small gauge can carry a surge and melt the insulation on the wire,Due to overload.Your so right when you say it's invisible! That's why they make meters!I go a 40 amp and it runs 2 rooms.0ne room has a 600 HPS and a 400 HPS.The other room has a 400 MH.Timers and lights and fans! That is code for this area.

Now with the 600 hps ballast I just got,no need to have to run a new wire or add any breakers. That's why I personally choose the 40 amp.You got room for additions!

Do you have a spare dryer plug anywhere? The easiest thing to do is to make an extension cord from your dryer plug to your grow room where you can hook up a 240v box that splits the single 240 connection into (up to) 8 lights. 240 lines are almost always running a 40 amp breaker. If you have a 30 amp, just dont run 8 lights, run 4 or 6, it will be fine. You can also split the 240 connection into 110v connections. As far as diagrams...not sure, google or your friends.
