Actually, judging from the attitudes you've already displayed above, I think we can be fairly well assured that you probably do mess around with girls who don't exactly value themselves or maintain high standards about guys who do. while i agree that people who use others are wrong, listen to this scenario. two people ,a guy and a girl, are at a party, getting drunk, having a good time. they hook up and mutually consent to have sex. next morning the girl wakes up and decides that it wasnt such a good idea and decides to press charges. she claims "i was drunk i couldnt make decisions" and he gets sent off for sexual assault and has a spot on his record forever. how is this fair? this kind of thing happens all the time. why are men held accountable for their actions and women can just say "i was drunk" and get out of the equation. any laws that support this double standard are biased and wrong

and bg, a lot of people look back on things they did when drunk and wish they didnt do them, but they shouldnt be able to file charges for it.
and there is a difference between raping a passed out girl and engaging in consentual sex with a wiling partner. you dont automatically pass out when you drink a little and lose all decision making ability.

I hear what you're saying, Darkside, and I see how that situation is unfair to the guy for sure. Obviously, if they were mutually consenting at the time, you'd think it was OK. And like I said earlier, she's responsible for putting herself in those circumstances and getting into that situation. The cases that have gone to the courts that we've actually seen at the center where I've volunteered for a long time, however, are cases where she's literally too drunk (and usually under the influence of other stuff, too) to consent to sex and too drunk to fight him/them off sufficiently and then ends up getting raped that way. They were cases where mutual consent or moderate drunkenness really didn't enter into it. Those, at least according to the lawyers who work with those women, are more commonly the ones they can successfully prosecute. We've also had three cases where the girls have been at parties or clubs and had date-rape sedative/amnesia-inducing drugs put into their drinks, which then rendered them incapable of making a coherent decision or protecting themselves in any way. The guys in those cases (one was a train-running case where a group of guys took advantage of her while she was incapacitated) got prison terms.

The point we're trying to make is that guys need to be very careful about who they're trying to have sex with when alcohol is involved because you don't really ever know what's going to happen the next day when everyone sobers up. The consequences are very serious to your futures. For me, this isn't simply an issue upon which I have a woman's bias, either. I'm the mother of a 20-year-old son who, along with his friends, is in the phase of life where he's constantly pursuing as much sex as he can find. He goes to Duke University, site of the famous lacrosse-team rape case that's now in the process of falling apart but which has basically ruined three young men's lives. The point is that young men and women alike need to be very careful out there, especially when alcohol comes into play.
