my grandmother taught me with a switch. oh, it was bad. sometimes REALY bad, but in retrospect, i deserved what i got, and learned from it too; not to mention the prevention of SERIOUS mistakes i was going to make...

but i don't think a switch is the best method of spanking, lol

I don't necessarily think it is child abuse, although I suspect it's easy for it to cross the line into abuse. I don't believe hitting/spanking of any kind is a good technique to use on children. We didn't use it on ours, and he's turned out fine.

There wasn't really an option for this belief.

spanking is ok in some situations just remember the punnishment should fit the behavior you cant just hall off and wack them when ever they make a little to much noise or run thrue the house it should be reserved for serious punnishment

I've never had to spank my child, but I think it can be effective, but only if done in rare circumstances. The sock factor is what seals the deal, lol! If they're accustomed to it, it doesn't mean squatt in my opinion.. ..

I have spanked my daughters twice in thier lifetimes. They are 11 and 14. It was about 5 years ago. Both of them. Both times was over the same thing. I made it a huge production both times. I had warned them that it could happen many times. All other means had failed. I made the process take about 20 minutes. I was not mad at all. The spanking was the same thing everytime. 2 swift smacks to their rear. Not super hard but enough to make them feel it. You would never guess what it was over, some people may think it is stupid. But I felt was an emergency. It is because they were not brushing their teeth. I see so many people that do not take care of their teeth. Rotten teeth are terrible. You only get one set. All that stuff. Plus, both are the most beutiful (sp?) girls in the world. Now, 5 years later. I never have to check if they have brushed. They have the whitest, prettiest teeth. I am sure I will never spank them again.

I think people that slap or whip their kids out of anger are committing child abuse.
I was whipped with a belt, switch and a whole bunch of other stuff growing up. I know how that feels and the anamocity (sp) that it breeds.

I used to get spanked and shit, occasionally beat and hit. Nothing that bad though. That shit never really worked with me though, i'd just come back for more and rebel. I don't know why, but that is just how I am, and always have been. But i'm sure in some cases with some children it is effective.

anyone hear about that law in sac. making spanking a child under 3 a crime punishable by a YEAR in jail?!

spanking is a pycolgical punishment more than anything. definetly works.

Here are my 2 cents.

I think some parents go to that "tool" a bit too quickly and chances are they were hit when they were children. (we teach what we were taught)

I think its good for shock value when used sparingly but when it becomes overused it becomes useless and detrimental.

I am embarrassed when parents do it in public.
I wonder if it is because it happened to me as a child (but I dont really recall that)
