Wow, I just read about Timothy Leary. Pretty amazing stuff he did. He researched and experimented with the therapeutic and spiritual benefits of psychedelic drugs.
If you don't know anything about him, I'd read this, it's very interesting:

Yeah, I don't know enough about him to have an opinion about him as a person. I just thought his life was pretty interesting.

Yeah, the guy who said the dropping out of school things, well that seems pretty far fetched. I mean read that biography, he went to many different colleges. He even got a PH.d

The promotion of drug use by people like him only left
us all with strict drug policies...Thanks Tim. Oh wait he
did have the marijuana tax stamp act abolished, never
mind cannabis only ended up in the controlled substance
act of 1970.

Folks, I've had to delete three responses to this original post because of non-cannabis discussion. That's not particularly surprising, considering the topic of the thread itself. But if you're going to respond to this thread, you'll have to do it in ways that don't mention the substance Leary was best known for experimenting with--or you're going to have to be very circumspect about how you address your response. If that doesn't happen, we'll have to close the thead.

I am all for following board rules Birdgirl. Although, don't you think that the topic of these substances are more educational based. For example, I could understand deleteing posts of someone talking about themselves using these drugs. But the post is basically talking about his viewpoints throughout his life, biographically.
LOL i dont know if that made sense.
but just puting that out there...

I hear you, and you make perfect sense. I mean, I think that Timothy Leary felt that he was doing educational/research/scientific work with his experiments, and he was. But the thing here is that how somebody else interprets information in detailed responses, particularly information that talks about mind-expanding and psychedelic experiences, is completely subjective. So what you might interpret as educational/scientific information might, to an adventurous 15-year-old, be interpreted as an endorsement or suggestion to try it.
Don't get me wrong here. I know we're not going to prevent people/kids from trying various substances. But the reason we try and maintain the cannabis-only policy is to keep folks concentrating on the gentler substance this board is about--and to make sure that subjective interpretation is at least limited to cannabis, which is pretty tame compared to some of the others that come up (and get taken down) here from time to time. Hope that makes sense!\"That best portion of a good man\'s life: his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.\"
